I mean what is the purpose of this app?
Is this person (johnny) showcasing their favorite food spots ?
Maybe a background banner similar to linktree or blue sky might be better as a lot of foodies love food photography.

Leaning towards whats familiar / more intuitive, plus if this is for a western audience people typically read left to right

I don’t see a big difference here, but you’re right — placing the profile picture on the left aligns better with users’ mental models. Also, Variant B has that hole between “Johnny” and the profile picture.
