hell yeah brother
gonna take a month of sundays to code properly lollll. simple became complicated real fast
don't let your own scope creep get the best of you
it has in a the past but I try to keep reasonable boundaries around project scope
I am not using a CMS, so i think it will be quite a good portfolio piece in itself too for someone of my experience
if I reach my goals then I allow myself time to tinker around
ahh yea that's a good idea
planning is really what saves scope creep, regardless of the project
yeah! that's why ive been a stickler for designing it this time so i have an idea what i will build. i mean i have to build an admin panel if im gonna make posts... but hm it's a bit complicated. i will cut back on analytics and stuff or something
if you write down your goals you have a good idea of what your finish line looks like, kind of like bumper pads
even design can creep too
yeah it was meant to just be like a blank page with some writing on originally
but realistically that could put people off if i do ever need to job search
because what appeals to me won't appeal to a recruiter
it's hard to find people's projects tho like when i click on a devs linkedin i can't easily see what im competing vs lol
correct, and that's the question you need to answer for yourself. Are you creating a site to showcase who you are generally speaking, or are you wanting a specific kind of person to see specific things about your experience
i want to blog and for it to look nice, that's my main goal! I made https://devpad.net but it's for a community and i think it's better if i have a separate blog for myself
I think a toggle like you had was a good idea, which allows you to put in all of your work (personal or professional) and allow users to select which they want to see
or maybe not a toggle since you had a few different things, but a button toggle to switch between different kinds of content
i get you
in the about section i could do that! i was thinking to show a couple of projects there
just don't overthink it, because overthinking is the catalyst to overworking
ahha
getting something out there is better than perpetual tinkering and noone ever sees it
yeah i hear you
ill plod along with the design i have so far and see how it goes. it's going to be a slow build because im not using a framework or a cms. a lot of the stuff in the video i quickly made with ai to prototype it
are you working on anything at the moment?
working on a new search UI for a data repository for my work, and then working on a new site for NYC Public Schools for my freelance
and some smaller stuff in between those
that's a lot to manage
lots of time management
plus a wife who's going for her doctorate, two kids, and two dogs 😛
I have a Bernedoodle and a shih tzu
ohh cute
here's the bernedoodle
