Honesty, there is no truly standard design process. There are, sort of, frameworks that are helpful.

But if everyone followed exactly the same process, they wouldn’t be competitive. So part of what companies have to compete on is their process, itself.

#

That said, designing for websites often is different from designing for products.

But I feel like the bigger question to unpack here is: Are you struggling to understand how the experience you build from working on this helps you move forward in your career, as you’re just starting out?

Yeah I guess that is the question. I was trying to connect what I learned to what I am doing at work.

#

I took intro to HCI and system analysis courses, that we really dig in with users and design psychology to build system design specifically apps

#

So i guess with ur point that websites are differeent from products, that makes sense

#

maybe i was really thinking in terms of systems in general than a website

I think the extra tricky soft skill for graduates right now is:

  • Some of what you learn is stuff that didn’t exist when your coworkers started your careers
  • Some of what you learn is old stuff your coworkers moved on from

And that’s really, really tricky to figure out when you’re in your first job.

Are you the only designer on the team, or in the company? Or is there a senior designer working with you?

The process mostly falls between like traditional designing. When I designed my first website within the agency, I quite don't know where to start as I know from what I learned is I need to do some research and stuff and identify like pain points, empathy, etc. But we go ahead and based in on branding, SEO and other existing design principles that they already been using.

I guess the main thing I learned is to play around with it, so I took some marketing courses. I wanted to discuss this with my HCI prof lol jist to get her insights lol.
