You pay for experience and skill. Paula Scher made Citibank logo on a napkin during a client meeting and asked for 1.5mil. It doesn't matter if its a thumbnail or a sketch, you pay for experience and skill.
This is a huge example, but its probably the most accurate example for a "thumbnail"
I think this discussion is happening in extremely polarizing contexts.
Not sure if we can compare YouTube thumbnails to pentagram here.
I can see $3-5 being pretty reasonable for someone running a small channel. Obviously makes no sense in the context of true design freelance work
