I think your idea of trying to make it look like graffiti is a very good one, and the overall effect of the image looks rich so far. But maybe one thing to be aware of is the blocks of colour in your font are very solid and very complete, whereas the brush texture of the graffiti on the back layer is pretty loose and spread out. Especially if you're using two different brush textures, it doesn't feel like there's enough visual unity.
Maybe you could try using large colour dots, like this? Of course, this is just my personal opinion, good work keep going!
