#Job choice - Low / High Energy Work

Some examples that come to mind are:
Low Energy: Tech Support, Aduitors & Compliance, etc.
High Energy: EMT, Nursing, Concept art, etc.
I want to know why people choose to have excitement at work (challenges & ambiguities) or to have work that's subdued (clear solutions & answers) daily.
I think things like pay, interests, and career development are probably what come to mind
Also, a low energy job is great if you have a side thing you'd rather focus on. Some people approach jobs as a way to get money, not where their passion is, and that's ok too
vs. others that may want to work in their passions because they realize it's a bulk of their life
Also something like auditing (highly cognitive and lots of paperwork) aren't necessarily low energy I would say. The type of energy someone wants to spend on their job also changes
I can illustrate all day, but you list concept art as high energy, but stale paperwork where I'm checking numbers/dates/etc? I could probably only do that a couple of hours before I go insane
- Focus at that life stage: like @lofty brook said, maybe in that point in your life you want to focus on your kids/family and job is just for stable income
- Pay
- People you want to work with
- Company culture
- Location
- Interests
Maybe something for you to consider is what kind of relationship do you want with your job, and go from there
If it's a main source of growth and mentorship for you, then you can prioritize it that way
what one consider as high-energy, may be boring, stressful, and repetitive to another person. it all depends, and that's why we have a multitude of jobs and career paths
oh and to answer your question on which is preferred... personally I started off at high energy, and although I may be taking on more or approaching new challenges, it doesn't feel as high energy because I've gotten better at my job. So I'd say career growth, pay, and learning keeps me in this path
