How do you hope to show the value of UX?
As in, how do you hope the result will play out. And if that result plays out, how will you translate it into value? ($$)
I hope to show the value in improving usability.
Usability is a major pain point that our companyâs products have expressed by customers. Iâm still too new to the company to really translate that to value, but I believe there have been cases in which clients have stopped using our product because itâs too hard to use. Or they donât know that it can do certain things itâs actually capable of, and later churn or request it. I can also maybe make the case that it means less wasted time spent from clients requesting help with our software experts if they understand how to use the new feature with just the content on the page alone.
I guess itâs important to focus on âlow hanging fruitâ
What are small changes that will increase the usability
Low effort, big impact
But donât talk in terms of usability too. Rather some more levels of impact, in line with the companies vision or mission
Also dare to make predictions if youâre sure
Tied to measurable metrics
Might be risky if youâre wrong
Yup, âmore usableâ isnât a business goal. But user retention, more time in app, etc. might be.
Even better if you can talk to actual users
Thanks. All good points. I've decided after talking with my product owner to test out the rudimentary design. Hopefully it can uncover some pain points that lead to low effort, big impact changes I can squeeze before the release.
I'm not sure what kind of metrics can be caught since this feature doesn't exist yet, so there's no baseline.
Yeah doesnât mean like a real metric more like
If we do [concrete design direction] more people will find X, therefore the conversion will increase
Even more powerful if you ensure you record the usability test. And it's not about 'pain' points, look for things that impact the business. It being a pain doesn't say anything in itself.
