Hello, been trying for a few hours to get my setup working. i am unsure what the issue is but the automation program just cant connect through the UART.

Setup:
Windows 11
Ryzen 5 5600x
RTX 3080
Arduino Leonardo
UART: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08JLRP6YV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I have downloaded all the drivers required and the COM6 port shows, however cannot connect. I also installed the drivers for the UART for Win 11 support.

I have tried reflashing the arduino numerous times aswell as restarting the PC. Cables are in the correct ports and tried changing the cables too to try eliminate any potential broken ones.

Capture card and audio work fine in the app also.

I have cpu utilization and other info feedback.

Just abit lost so any help is muchly appreciated.

#

p.s. the stand alone microconteller step with the turbo A worked fine.

Your second photo tells me you need to swap one end of your TX/RX cables. Change their places on one end and it should fix the issue. Close the program and reopen to see if it’s cleared up.

theyre labelled and in correctly, tried switching regardless to no avail

#

when i try to reset the serial port it also just gets stuck on stopping, i dont know if thats any helpful information

#

is it potentially the uart is not correct?

#

the github says use a CP2102 but i have a CP2102N which it says is an upgraded version

cunning plinth
#

Any CP210x is fine.

#

Did you flash the PABotBase?

#

At this point it’s more likely the hex or the cables. The output window shows you’re getting information sent.

Run through these steps. Let us know what part you get stuck on

I've had to leave for work. Will try in the morning when I'm home. Thanks

#

The botbase was flashed though yes. Tried a few times

@cunning plinth Step C: does the LED stay on? If that refers to the green LED, yes it does

#

Tried re-docking and wiring direct to the switch also

cunning plinth
#

I believe so? Sorry it’s been a while since using the Leonardo only one of them will blink

patent garnet

I get the orange flashing LEDs, 1st stays green. 5s of flashing, then the solid green remains on. Its okay, i appreciate your time and assistance

Really though on 1.c if you’re able to flash TurboA and get it working. Doing the same (flashing) PABotBase should work too.

patent garnet
#

yeah. i can flash the arduino fine for the stand alone. just for whatever reason the serial port wont connect. Id guess something UART related

cunning plinth
#

So you’re stuck on 2e-2g?

patent garnet
#

i am yeah

cunning plinth
#

Can you try another usb port for the UART?

#

To confirm the setup is as follows

Switch <- Leonardo - UART -> PC

patent garnet
#

i have tried every port i have, what i have noticed is that the leonardo does not show up in my device manager.

#

and yes that is the setup

cunning plinth
#

Can you show what QMV says when you flash PABotBase?

#

normally it isn’t this difficult

patent garnet
cunning plinth
#

Yup yup looks good

#

Photo of the UART to Leonardo connection please

patent garnet
#

blue cable is the uart heading up to a usb port, also tried usb ports on rear

#

orange is rx, blue tx, black ground

cunning plinth
#

It is? That doesn’t match the Amazon link you provided. worrySweat

#

The link shows brown as TXD, yellow as RXD, and GND as black

patent garnet
#

thats whats printed on the connections

#

should i try that maybe?

#

doesnt have a brown but yellow says GTS

cunning plinth
#

I mean, idk. sadman

#

It’s frustrating that it’s different.

#

Does the device manager call out what the device is when you have it plugged into the PC? If the wires are different, I wonder if they gave you a different board.

patent garnet
#

yeah its got three different coloured cables completely. but no it doesnt show in device manager

#

think ill bite the bullet and order a different cable and see if that gives any results

cunning plinth
#

Ok. Sorry this has taken so long to figure out

patent garnet
#

dont be silly, thank you for your time

#

ill order the new cable and report back if i get any changes

@cunning plinth we have life! checked the reviews on the uart cable and filtered for the 1-3 star reviews for issues. cables are infact incorrectly labelled. played around with different cables and we are now up and running! Apologies for buying backward components pikahnnng

cunning plinth

Glad you got it figured out

thanks again for your time ❤️
