One of the best ways to retain a playerbase and keep people coming back to a game is to build a community with an identity. Which is something that I think Marauders is currently lacking. The atmosphere and aesthetics are great, however it could use some TLC in terms of actual community building. Here are some of the ideas I had to improve on the guilds system, to allow the growth of community and identity in the game:
-
Guilds need to have cosmetic faction identifiers in game. Patches are a nice start, but letting guilds customize a cosmetic item(s) and having specialized items that the guild has to unlock would make a huge difference.
-
Guild and/or faction based events, tournaments, etc. Having guilds and/or factions square off would give players a reason to keep coming back, fighting to have your guild at the top of the scoreboard, and getting massive rewards for winning weekly/monthly tournaments would help retain players and give them something to fight for. Along with this having unique objectives for guild members to complete in raid would be a nice change from the standard order system and Z2H.
-
Guild stats. Let the members of a guild see stats for how the guild is doing, things like total kills, total money collected, total ships destroyed, raids extracted successfully, as well as a tracker for which guild you kill most frequently and which guild kills you most frequently would all be a great addition to keep the competition up between guilds.
-
Expand on the guild hideout. My friends and I spent hours just screwing around in the hideout in this recent patch trying out weapons, mindlessly killing each other etc. Adding more features, weapons, and QoL functionality to the hideout would be nice.
These are just a few things that came to mind, I'm sure not all of them are good ideas or even feasible which is fine, more just food for thought than anything.
