I think Gwiddy probably means the background colour around the crate icon in the stash so you can quickly identify what's in them based on the colour rather than just the label.

I would say it's not really necessary since you can name your containers but why not. Let's add some color to them.

I think crate skins that are on theme for the universe would be cool.

There could be sets of skins for each faction, UA, KA, CE, Raider, Marauder.

There could also be some that are non-faction specific but occupation or location specific, Asteroid Miner, Terraformer Worker, Colonist, Space Station Resident, Prison Issue, etc.

Of course no one else is going to see the skins since they're in your inventory, but it could still be cool to have.
