There's still no South African, or South American too for that matter server regions,
Ping for the other regions between me and my friends is too high, some of my friends ending up always having 300 MS because when you added the region update you removed their server regions. One of the Developers in a previous thread had tried to say "You'll just connect to that region anyways/closest one in game" we attempted to play sometime after that and we found out that was a blatant lie, you don't 'magically' go to the regions you're closest to, you go to one of the 5 from the EU/US that are left. There' an obvious difference from before and after the update with pings, and the fact connection to American/EU servers still happens regardless if either of us host.
