My crew mate was captain and he died. I brought the ship back (Cruiser Scout). We abandoned his crew and started a new one so we could take that ship back out.
But it had replaced my Capital Ship in my hangar. That would be annoying enough, but it was storing all my blueprints, bullion etc!!!

Strangely the game thinks I have the inventory that was on the ship - ie blueprints in my crafting tab that aren’t in my secure storage, and also I have 2 metal sheets registering in my contract that are on the “ghost” ship

Similar but different - I stole an interceptor last night. It’s not in my hangar…
