What is motivating this suggestion?
Additions in new content, and possible overhaul of the current crafting/trading mechanics and possibly adding to endgame
What is your proposal?
My suggestion will be in 3 parts: Main Menu, Crafting/Trading and Playable Ship/Playable Ship Upgrades
Main Menu:
Instead of having a plain old menu, you start in your ship. And give it POIs instead of the main menu tabs. That's pretty much it, but would be necessary for the Crafting/Trading Suggestion
Crafting/Trading:
Instead of just having tabs, you physically go to locations on your ship to craft items and use storage. And I was thinking for a solo experience, the traders could be accessed using terminals and essentially "ordering" items that appear in your storage, or for an instance experience you have multiple players ships docked onto a space station, and you could access all traders at the same time. As well as interact with other players
Playable Ship:
Instead of having multiple different ships at one time for raids, you have one ship. The idea being that you upgrade it over time using more money and crafting materials. And it could either be necessary to upgrade your ship over time to unlock other things, such as being able to craft certain items (adding a ship level requirement as well as a player level requirement). In order to add a fear factor, you could replace the ship storage (or reduce it) with an upgradable "Safe Box" should having a multi-player instance for a main menu be implemented, and it be on the aforementioned space station.
Playable Ship Upgrades:
There are a wide range of upgrades possible that already exist, and could be added relatively easily. From ship sizes (healthy but slow) to bigger engines (fast but takes more damage) to weapons (better weapons could require ammo). You could customise every aspect of your own ship, but have drawbacks
The overall idea being these add immersion, customization, personalisation and more goals for endgame players
