all the daws will have the same quality presets, All the top daws will all do the same thing for the most part. Its really subjective and just about preference of what works best for you. Ease of use etc. Some DAWS work for others where others do not. But now a days the Most Popular DAWS all do the same thing. Reaper, FL Studio, Ableton Live, Cubase are all good DAWS and popular

In my opinion fl studio is the most visual which really helps me

there's not a lot in the way of usable free DAWS with recording as far as I know

I use LMMS/audacity but lmms has no native recording atm so if you're doing a lot of importing recordings it's not going to be a good workflow

I know some people that use reaper for free-- it will pester you to pay them but you can still export and use it fine as far as I know

and yeah what seerking said is totally right-- basic things like recording quality and mixing are going to be doable and comparable across all major daws-- workflow and any advanced functionality you need would be the main factors for which you use

I haven't tried it myself but from what I've read it looks like one of the best free options
