I wish I took more pics, but I did take a video instead. This is by no means perfect, but with the holidays fast approaching, and fellow crafters may be looking for something that's quick to make that's functional. If you don't have a sewing machine, you do not need one to make one of these, as the video I made demonstrates 100% hand sewing.

Come on in and grab your bowl of soup.

Need something to keep your bowl warm, and your fingers insulated from the heat?

This might be the perfect household item to do just that. You might also be able to make one for a friend or family member!

This project only took me 2 days to make, while filming, but if this is your first time, or if ...

Start with an overall square, thats 9x9 inches. Your seam allowance around the edge will be 1/2 inch. You will need 2 layers of quilting cotton or plain weave cotton (you could get away with other cotton fabrics that are woven, but it has to be woven for structural integrity)

You will also need 1 layer of cotton batting that is 8x8 inches

Then, your darts should be 3.5 inches from the corner pointing towards the very center of your square, and at the 1/2 inch sewing line, from the center of the dart, the dart legs should be 1 inch wide.

The thumb straps are optional. I used petersham grosgrain ribbon, that is 1 inch wide, but I recommend a more functional cotton twill tape, as cotton twill won't melt if dunked in soup
