Hello 🙂
I got into this stuff a few months ago, for the table-top stuff it basically comes down to 2 big players Silhouette and Cricut.
Cricut has 2 main flavours of machine, the 'Joy' which is the scrapbooking/toy model and the larger (12" max width) Explorer/Maker line
Silhouette also has 2 main types, the 'Portrat 3' which is the mobile version, does up to Letter size paper. The larger/pro lineup is the Cameo 4 (12" width) and it's variants 'Plus' (15" width), and 'Pro' (24" width)
Both companies have most of the same capability with materials and tools, the real difference is in the software that drives things.
Cricut uses a web-based software suite, if you loose internet connectivity the machines are bricked until the connection is restored.
Silhouette used older style local software, not quite as intuitive to use but solid
While Cricut seems to still be the more popular option they have already tried to make their software into a subscription you'd have to continually pay for. They reversed that decision but I wouldn't put it past them to try again.
