Motherships are incredibly useful.
I'm assuming that you are under level 30 and a friend or someone in this server were talking about them and you were curious.
Here's the breakdown: Motherships are very, VERY important in gameplay. They can boost health, give the user an aegis/absorber shield, and can do significant damage to groups of enemies when summoned at the right time.
Of course, I might be wrong about my assumption. If you are not yet level 30 then try grinding to it. You unlock the gold event chests and you also unlock motherships. If you just got to level 30 or have been in level 30 for a lot of time, then you can easily up your game with motherships. Try opening the silver key chests and try getting the Mothership Components there or try getting the Laser cannon. It does more damage than the default mothership weapon. Arguably, you Could open the gold chest and try for the Gravity Amplifier Cannon or the 10,000 components for any mothership, but don't count on it because the gold chest has 65 prizes. If you're under level 30 and confused as to why there are no mothership components in the silver or gold chests, that's because you haven't unlocked them yet.
