Hello, hello.

As part of an ongoing project that I've procrastinated for longer than I liked to admit, I'm introducing a special building contest in the name of INNOVATION!

<Contest Info>
Duration: <t:1757041200:f> - <t:1758254340:f>
Judging Period/Announcement of Winner: 19/9/25 - 26/9/25 (TBD)
Note: 1 submission only!

Players have 13 days to make a submission involving the steam mechanic! To submit an entry, simply post your submission here with its render and what your machine does, and we will review your submission (you can request an in-person review). Just be sure to do it before 18th September 23:59 GT Time! Winners will be announced once I have enough time to go through the submissions. Prizes are as follow:

Most Impressive Submission - 1 Steampunk Gearbox

This prize is for the submission that made the best use of the steam mechanic in general. This does not mean that the submission must only use steam - it can also include some other cool mechanics that exist in-game, such as Adventure Items, or the Game Generator. Of course, it's a given that your world still incorporates steam in a significant way.

Officially-approved Submission - 1 Steampunk Lock

This prize is for submissions which we think would be a great submission to feature in official events. Submissions eligible for this would typically be game-oriented and are designed for players to have fun in.

Note that if your submission is selected for the "Most Impressive Submission" category, you won't be eligible for this prize, but you might still be asked if we can use the world/design for events.

Participation Prizes - 1 Steampunk Wings

All participants who did not win any of the above prizes will get this prize, provided there is evidence that sufficient effort has been used in the submission.

Happy inventing!

Judging Criteria Process

Submissions will be judged as follow:

>>> Required to be eligible for ANY of the prizes:
- Originality: if the submission is copied/made prior to the contest.
- Effort: if the submission indicates sufficient effort has been invested into it.
- Relevance to steam: whether the submission has made sufficient use of the steam mechanic (this means the steam has to at least try to work!)

>>> For non-participation prizes, by breakdown:
1. [45%] How innovative it is (i.e. how far did the submission stretch the possibilities of steam)
2. [45%] How useful it is (i.e. whether it has genuine in-game uses, fun included)*
3. [10%] How efficient/elegant the steam design is (i.e. if the steam mechanics appeared to be designed without using more steam parts than necessary, etc)

Note that you might be asked some questions regarding your design during the judging phase.

* For submissions intending to design utility-based setups, it may help if you showcase them being used in a practical setting instead of presenting them on its own.

>>> For officially-approved prizes:
1. How fun it is.
2. Whether anyone in the team can reasonably use the submission for official events.

(NOTE: this world was made before the contest and I understand that there will be no reward, but I just wanted to show it off anyway and if that isn't allowed, then this post can be deleted and I apologize.)
GrowID: NightCreator
World: STEAMPUNKFACTORY
Short Description: "This world utilizes steam cranks and has you guide steam to a steam vent end-point in order to progress. You'll learn the general pattern of how steam moves and how you can change the direction of cranks to decide where steam will end up. Each level progressively gets more complex, and eventually you'll have to guide multiple steam signals. You can also play this world with other people too (you should try sticking together), but the world can entirely be done alone."

(Note-- the only way you will be able to use this world for events, is for showcases. This is not a minigame, and only one person can use it at a time)
GrowID: imslp
World: GTCALC
Description:
This world is a culmination of the years of steam I have worked with in-game. Countless Reddit and Forum posts about different components over the years, and how my calculator has evolved over time. What is this? Basically, it is a calculator with a digital display, all made from steam (well, 96% steam, 4% adventure blocks). You can add numbers up to the total sum of 9. The sum is then displayed digitally in a 7-segment display. In-person tutorial is needed, if you would like to see the functionality. Shoutout to the previous calculators out there, Kelfran's was the first I discovered, and after making my first design in 2021, I have constantly been improving every single component. This is the first calculator in-game to use a decimal display, rather than having a binary output (to my knowledge).

#

Another note: I know the world looks ugly, but I would rather focus on the functionality. Those of you who have been following progress, a more reliable, 2-digit sum version is in the works!

Steam Glasses – Concept Description

The Steam Glasses are a steampunk-inspired wearable designed for Growtopia. They combine traditional brass goggles with futuristic steam-powered technology. When activated, the player lifts their hand towards the glasses, triggering a burst of steam and a powerful laser-like beam from the lenses.

This item symbolizes innovation and creativity, fitting perfectly with the Steampunk Jam theme. It’s not just cosmetic—its design emphasizes interaction, with a unique animation effect that makes the glasses feel alive, as if fueled by steam itself.

World: CONSUMEDBYFIRE

Inspired by the glass bridge/glass stepping stones from squid game.
There are 6 sections each with 3 doors. Only 1 out of the 3 doors lead to the next section. Choose incorrectly and you lose 1 of your 2 lives.
Using steam, the correct doors are randomly selected automatically before every game.
Player count and time limit can be configured through the game generator (default is 1-4 players in 5 mins)
-# For anyone reading this you can try it out by just going to the world
-# And there is now a link to a world explaining the steam mechanism used
