Waiting on a new PC. Previous PCS hardware was a laptop from 2014. ;) This new desktop should be pretty and powerful. Not the fastest CPU/GPU ever, but should give a pretty good power to watt value and be upgradeable in the future.
Just don't ask how much it cost. ;) But It'll fly with the Penguin!

  • What is the purpose of your PC/laptop? (e.g. gaming, general work, 3D rendering)
  • What monitor resolution will you be using? (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4k)

change the cooler 120 aios are pretty bad expecially as you case as room for a 240 or 360 aio

Updated the AIO size, but it's limited in size up to 290. I opted for the 240. Should still work.
I chose the 64GB because in my experience, prices rarely go down, and at the mo, I can afford it. I know that sounds dumb, but my previous desktop has been going since 2012 with only a few updated over the years. I don't buy things that often. :)

I'd recommend the Fractal North XL case, basically the same but bigger, lets you mount a 360mm AIO on top, no such thing as overkill cooling and if you wanted to upgrade to a spicier CPU like a 9950X3D, you'd have good cooling for it already

I get what you're saying, but I'm also limited in space. The 9950x3d is nice, but too much for my needs. Electricity is annoyingly expensive per kwh. :( I think this will serve me for now. Thanks for your advice though!

any reason for the extremely fast ssd? is the pc just for gaming or other uses?

Gaming and general use. The price of it isn't hugely more than others. Also future proofing to some degree. 4TB for me is loads.

At this point, the amendment cost for case and memory changes outway the benefits... Call this user error. sigh But I would like to get back into video editing.

Also, the XL case appears to show in black. I like the Fractal case in white.

Both. I've always liked that look.. A nice change from the 'usual' PC appearance.

But any major change will be the price + increase/decrease + amendment cost. While the XL is only a bit more, the total would be about 79

you could get the silverstone case if you wanted something "different", but it's really just for anyone wanting an oldschool sleeper build

Yup. I wasn't expecting it to be that far along yet, but it's alright. My room tends to be cool, so I'm not too worried about cooling.

The RAM is also faster than that CPU, but in the future should give me a bit of headroom if AMD comes out with a faster CPU. I can replace that, and not the whole box

AMD already committed to Zen6 on the same AM5 socket, so while the official promise is 2027, it's probably new CPUs on the socket until more like 2030

also, if AM4 is anything to go by, it's gonna be about 10 years of new CPUs as AM4 still got a new CPU just a few months ago
