#Gaming PC replacing an older build

Currently looking into replacing a couple of PCs that were decent when they were bought (2017) but fairly low power now. Aiming in at around the £1500 max, and buying from the UK.

We don't tend to buy new releases (though monster hunter wilds will be a likely exception) however a lot of what we do play tends to bake the CPU more than the GPU. MMOs, BG3, heavily modded lethal company etc.

Is this the right sort of idea for what we want to look for? (more to come in replies)

Neither of us particularly stores a lot of data on our devices- anything important is kept in multiple backups that exist outside of the main machines.

that said speed might be more of a factor here so I'll want to look for something faster

Monitors are currently 1080/144hz, will be keeping these for now with a "maybe update these later" path

to be sure, thats 1500GBOP per PC?

yeah

#

I need to see what m.2 drive I have in my pc currently because I put that in only a couple years ago - might still be viable to just use that instead

#

April 2021? Dam n time flies

Ok my current one is 2600MB/S and that has honestly been fine. Would still need to find something suitable anyway - as wife's PC doesn't have one

Also, do either of you need WiFi or are you both connected via ethernet?

We're both ethernet 🙂

I didn't realise you could share saved configs 😂 would have made that easier.

thanks, I'll keep that to hand for now. We're not immediately going down this route as we're doing some hous rennovations first, but I have a much better idea what to go down now. Appreciate it!

the prices are liable to drop soon enough, the zen5 CPUs are currently slated to release 15Aug, so that would drive price down

How far down the road roughly is it that you would pull the trigger?

long yoke

With my lack of impulse control I'm surprised I've not already bought mine. Probably within the next couple months

#

In that case, 100% worth it to revisit the spec

flat herald
#

yeah, it might even let the new motherboards help with the budget and drive prices down there too, letting you opt for more powerful CPU or GPUs

#

also, maybe something for the missus is a luna build, a white parts config, if thats something that might appeal

I myself kinda like the idea of "His and Hers" versions

long yoke

They're cute - though most of her stuff is black

hasty gust

Well, you get the pink one then 🤣

Just because I can't help but tinker, a secret bonus question

Assuming my budget was slightly larger, and you had two choice

7600X/7800XT
7700X/7700XT

which would you pick? I'd assume the stronger GPU, but...

If nothing else typing that I've decided I hate that naming setup 😄

7600X/7800XT, the 7700X is just kinda pointless IMO, gaming rarely needs more than 2 cores mostly, so the additional cores don't do much, and it's not all that much faster, so it really don't benefit much

#

the 2 extra cores don't benefit much in terms of productivity either, if you wanted a productivity CPU you'd either get an R9 CPU, or go Intel

That's what I thought - been forever since I've actually spent some time looking into how the hardware works and I am so rusty. Appreciate you taking your time ❤️

de nada, bill is in the mail, payment is due 5 weeks ago, the £10 can be paid to Lord Uncle MiBu, souls taken in lieu of cash

long yoke
#

And what can only be described as "of course it has", the 7800xt has gone up in price instead of down 😭

Up about a hundred too, I regret waiting

Prices can just go up and down

long yoke
#

guess I'll need to wait for longer in that case

adds another £100 to the price of the GPU
