My current PC has been unaltered since i got it about 2 years ago, but im starting to think about upgrading the RAM since i currently have a 16 GB PCS Pro DDR4 for my AMD Ryzen 5 5600x CPU and a B550 Auros Elite AX V2 Motherboard. Im just wondering what the best options would be for upgrading the RAM to both a newer spec and ideally having 32 or 64 GB of RAM as oppose to 16GB i currently have.
#Best RAM to use with my CPU

can you send the full specs of the PC?
to do that please go the order page, and click the Post Spec to Forums link at the bottom ofthe order page
The Specs are as follows:
And are you actually using close to the 16GB of RAM at all, if not more RAM wont help
Faster RAM could well help though whether you are using it all or not
faster and more importantly dual channel RAM can help
Also how full is your Windows drive?
I mean i mainly use my PC for strategy sim games, which i believe eats up the RAM (i'll check when i get home) and i remember being told or reading somewhere that the CPU i have needs more/newer RAM than i have
Where would i find that?
this would be a good upgrade for the RAM
as to find how full the windows drive is, go to My Computer, it should show the 2 drives, one with a windows symbol
Ahh right. I mean i'll look further into it when i get home and i'll show both the windows drive and RAM usage 👍
I didnt exactly expect a reply this fast icl 😭😅
The most regular regulars here, such as myself work from home
Ahh fair, yeah i mean i got another 4 hours to go till im free so like i said i'll post that stuff here once im home 🙂
thats what i got as of now
how would i go about checking this?
Task manager> Performance
You can easily get a rough idea just by checking out Task manager whilst your doing what youre normally doing (gaming ?)
eg mine currently looks like this whilst playing my favourite game (which has a bit of a memory leak lol) , so I can ssee I'm only using 40ish % of mine, obviously it depedns on what you have running and your machine, so just cos I'm using 13GB RAM doesnt mean you will - also mine is DDR5 RAM
sorry it took a while, i just wanted to capture it while im playing my usual game lol
So no, you're not running short on RAM (since youre using 10gb out of 16gb) - in which case just getting more RAM would probably make no difference, faster RAM (ie replacing your current stuff - not adding to it) may well be beneficial though (and using 2 sticks instead of 1)
The manual for your motherboard should show what speed RAM it can use
ahh alr
i mean i heard that more sticks was better because it distributes the work load or smthn, so i'll definitely go about replacing what i have with something newer and splitting it across 2 sticks
it did just occur to me that maybe HOI4 wasnt the highest demanding performance wise, so i checked some other games i play n it looks even worse 😭 @unborn vapor
If you only have 1 stick of RAM then it’s not taking advantage of dual channel for increased throughput. You’ll see better performance with 2 x 8GB rather than 2 x 16GB.
Would it not just be easier to get another stick the same as i already have? Or would a newer spec with a smaller storage be better?
You can, you just have to make sure the stick matches identically to the one you have or you could very well encounter instability issues.
I mean i got the PC through PCS and i have the order sheet with it on so with any luck i should just be able to match it up on the website
All being well yes - just depends on how old the PC is and so if there’d be stock issues. If in doubt, contact #📞support who should be able to help
Its roughly 2yrs old tbf
If you try the “upgrade my pc” through the website, does it allow you to add a matching stick to the order? I’m unsure how it will work with RAM
Where would i find that?
It says i cant because the GPU wont fit it. But im looking at said computer rn and the gpu fits in there fine 😂
But the actual stick has no issues with it
Errr. Are you sure it says GPU? And not CPU cooler or something
Because sometimes RAM won’t fit under CPU coolers because they can be too tall
Yeah that’s.. that’s a bug by the looks of it
i figured it might 😅
Could you drop that into #📮suggestions so I can pass in onto the dev team next week
That doesn’t look like it’s behaving like it should
I’d contact #📞support on Monday
