Hey guys, ready to pull the trigger on a build today. 1440p ultrawide monitor for gaming/productivity use. Based in the UK.

Are there are any improvements or ways to save money? Couple of questions i have:

  • Do i require any extra case fans or will the cooler + included fans be enough?
  • Arctic thermal paste yay or nay? I think I read the corsair coolers include a thermal paste, will PCS use that if i select standard?

Thanks for creating a spec thread!

Please be sure to include answers to the following questions so people can assist you quicker.

  • What is the purpose of your PC/laptop? (e.g. gaming, general work, 3D rendering)
  • What monitor resolution will you be using? (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4k)
  • What is your budget including currency symbol? (e.g. £2,000, 1000€)
  • Which country are you purchasing from? (Note that we only operate in the UK and Europe)
  • Any brand preferences?

The corsair coolers do indeed come with perfectly good paste pre-applied - so no you dont need arctic paste

you may want to get additional case fans, but that is more of a down the line issue as the 360mm AIO will be mounted on the front, so the preinstalled fan on the front will be moved to the top

oh ok, when i select to proceed on the configurator it defaults the radiator to the top option, is it better to go on the front?

sturdy bobcat
#

that case can it a max of of a 240mm AIO on top, so the 360mm one you selected will be on the front

#

if you want the AIO on top you need a bigger case, so maybe the 5000(letter) corsair case

#

the 5000 cases also allow more fans to be mounted, 10 in total 1 rear, 3 side, 3 front 3 top

oh i have the 5000d airflow selected ,did it not select it on the link?

It does show, DrLeft probably just misread it 🙂 (or it didnt show properly)

defaulted to the 4000 for me, no idea why, reloading fixed it

ah

in that case(badum tis) you'd want more fans, ideally the link fans to keep it all on one type of connection system

3x Corsair ICUE LINK QX120 TGB PWM Fan + Controller Kit

those ones?

yup

nice, i'll grab the extra fans then

maybe later on replace the stock fans with link ones as well, but you won't need to

I would pay £20 more for 1000W+ power supply if you plan on upgrading in the future, anything higher than 4080 super will start pushing within the realms of 850W being too small, doesn't hurt & it's cheap

high elm
#

how about the rest of the spec? does it look good?

sturdy bobcat
#

the rest does look good, Dv does make a good point about the PSU, but the 4080 Super is already a fantastic PSU, and who knows if a future GPU will even work with that PSU

#

I am not a fan of intel due to the upgrade options, but they are the best for productivity

high elm
#

thats a fair point, probs best to get the extra watts

#

i dont tend to upgrade my systems much, usually like to buy so that they last a good few years

If that's the case & you will just be buying a new one as you have now in the future then 850W is fine for the build, it's just something I see fairly often, PSU is cheap & they don't really get better, it's something you can keep consistant in future builds, but yeah - no need if you'll replace the whole thing

cheers guys, i may grab the 1000w just in case as you never know and it's not much more in cost

The calculator on the PC specialist website is a bit strange, i built a PC on there with a 14900KS & a 4090 OC, it was saying maximum power usage to be 650W which i find pretty hard to believe. Either that or the other calculators got it all wrong. 😄
