depending on the use, a R9 CPU might be overkill and the money could be funneled elsewhere

#

in that case yes, an R9 can be benefical for the game making, as having more than 8 cores can help

#

can you tell us the budget? as otherwise we will need to assume the limit is 2300-2400GBP

Good sized case, lots of air flow, best gaming CPU, mid to upper range Motherboard, fast RAM, strong GPU, 2 drives, smaller one for OS, 2TB for games. 360 AIO that will compliment the Corsair case, 3 extra case fans to fill out the side slots.

#

You could drop the side fans and go cheaper on the storage. I tried adding 64GB of ram but it went over ÂŁ3K

half kernel
#

I would make a small change to that, swapping the CPU to the 7950X3D for the productivity boost for the game/model making, and decompiling work, and the TUF 4080 for a "plain" 4080

carmine current
#

Ah, i didn't mean to select the ASUS 4080, my mistake

half kernel
#

all that said, if it's not a full time job, or a massive hobby, the 7800X3D is the better choice

Rejigged with non Asus 4080 super, slower 2TB drive, but that allowed me to up the RAM to 64GB and switch to 7950X3D. Had to change MB to Gigabyte cos PCS doesn't like 64GB RAM and Asus board combo for some reason....

half kernel
#

Even Asus's own page says they don't work with more than 48GB of 6000MHz+ RAM right now

carmine current
#

Did not know that...

half kernel
#

I was kinda shocked too tbh, but thats a little off topic

#

it will last a solid 4 years I imagine,
the CPU is the best all round on AMD currently.

the GPU is 2nd best from Nvidia

storage is easily upgraded,

the motherboard is AM5, so the upcoming Zen5 CPUs should be compatible with little trouble, and is PCIe4 already, so GPU options ar open for the future too

#

Windows.
in short windows needs space and doesn't like to share

#

and the more full and OS drive gets, the slower the whole system becomes

#

windows will be installed on the 512Gb drive from the get, so you don't need to install yourself

#

the PC will just need some updating and you'll be good to go

#

you don't need them, but you do want them, as they help keep the GPU cool

#

the controller kit is something the fans are plugged into in the back and make it possible to have all the fans and RGB usable

#

yup, if you want it dark you can turn off almost all lights on the PC

#

the only lights you can't turn off are important to have on, and are barely noticable even in the dark

#

power light yes, lights at the ethernet port, and there are dianostic lights that turn off if nothing is wrong

#

they are on the motherboard

#

the glass is tinted, but yes

carmine current
#

Yes, perfectly fine for gaming drive, good brand

#

I wouldn’t put a HDD in a modern build unless you needed vast amounts of archival storage. They’re loud and slow

half kernel
#

it's a maybe, HDDs are good for bulk storage that doesn't need to be fast, like video files, images and such

#

but for now, the 2.5TB space should be plenty, and you can upgrade storage any time

#

does it vibrate slightly while in use? if so, it's a HDD

#

not really just a slight vibrating yopu'd feel

#

top

#

if you choose to upgrade it will cost you more

#

the bare minimum won't allow you to upgrade, then you'll also need a whole new PSu too, and they run 150+ eu new, saving a few quid now can come back to bite you

#

trust us, oversized is better in the long run

#

yup, if you choose to go to a 4090 or something better in the future, you'll need it

#

then it would be money saved in a few years

#

the PSU will only pull power as needed, say for example you're just browsing reddit, and all it needs is 300W, it will only pull 300W, once you decide to start gaming flat out, and it needs the full 683W, it will pull the 683W it needs then

#

I think something like HWmonitor or HWifno can tell you, but I've not used it in a long time

#

yes, it's open source

#

a 1660 super won't be exactly a spicy power draw, can't imagine the PSU will be much over 500W
