Is there anything you would change to make this fit the 4080 super better?

Thanks for creating a spec thread!

Please be sure to include answers to the following questions so people can assist you quicker.

  • What is the purpose of your PC/laptop? (e.g. gaming, general work, 3D rendering)
  • What monitor resolution will you be using? (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4k)
  • What is your budget including currency symbol? (e.g. £2,000, 1000€)
  • Which country are you purchasing from? (Note that we only operate in the UK and Europe)
  • Any brand preferences?

Budget?

potent harbor
bright oak
#

£3200 and below idm really tho

hardy pulsar
#

And what's your use case, 7950X3D is a good CPU for a build that will be used for gaming and a high level of creative work, if that's your intended use?

bright oak
#

use case?

hardy pulsar
#

What will you use the PC for?

bright oak
#

oh nvm

#

just gaming pretty much

hardy pulsar
#

Ok, then change CPU to the 7800X3D

#

Will perform better for your needs. And then up RAM speed to 6000, drop the HDD and replace with a SSD. Go for size over speed for the second M.2.

bright oak
hardy pulsar
#

And I'd up the AIO to the 240 version, the H115 just for more legroom cooling wise.

#

8 cores, 16 threads

#

7800X3D is the best gaming CPU right now

bright oak
#

bottom one yea?

potent harbor
#

Scroll up

hardy pulsar
#

Nope, 7800 X 3D

bright oak
hardy pulsar
#

Yep

bright oak
#

so this no Hdd double SD?

hardy pulsar
#

Ryzen 9 CPUs you listed are better when you have high CPU load activities, like rendering video, etc. But they're not the best for just gaming

#

Choose 1TB 980 Pro for 1st M.2, then a 2TB or 4TB for the 2nd M.2

#

With your build/budget, you don't want HHDs, unless you have a requirement for a huge amount of archive space for documents, vidoes, etc

#

Which, if you're only gaming, you won't need

bright oak
hardy pulsar
#

I'd pick a brand other than PCS, if I'm honest.

bright oak
hardy pulsar
#

Yep, good brand, good speed for a gaming drive

bright oak
#

that or the corsair one?

hardy pulsar
#

I'd be happy with the solidigm P41 range. Save you about £30

bright oak
#

64Gb ram?

hardy pulsar
#

32 is fine, just up the speed to 6000 from the 5600 you have

#

6000 is the sweet spot for AM5 in terms of performance and stabilty

bright oak
#

is this power supply fine?

hardy pulsar
#

Yes, you could up to 1000W to allow you to upgrade GPU in a few years without needing the change the PSU, but if you don't have the budget to do that now, 850W is good for 4080

bright oak
#

ill jus do the 1000 its like £20 more

hardy pulsar
#

👍

#

So what's the price vs budget loooking after all those changes?

bright oak
#

how much would the 4080 super be?

hardy pulsar
#

In theory, cheaper than the 4080 non super

bright oak
#

with the 4080 rn its

hardy pulsar
#

Exact price on PCS will depend on the model they select and pricing of it vs FE MSRP

#

Ok so well below the £3200 mark you mentioned earlier.

#

I'd treat myself to some braided cables, with the case you have, it will visually look at lot better

bright oak
#

icl, if i didnt join this discord i woulda been spent like 3200+ (high number = good)

hardy pulsar
#

And easier to do that now and not later and have to do the cable management yourself

bright oak
#

the £95 one?

hardy pulsar
#

But more expensive than the 30 series version, of course. But it makes a big difference. It was an upgrade I did for my 3070TI GPU, creates a much neater look in the case.

bright oak
#

also did you say about changing this ?

hardy pulsar
#

Yes, to the H115 version

#

the H100 is the 240mm (2x 120mm fans), the H115 is the 280mm (2x140mm fans).

#

It both will cool the 7800X3D, but the H115 will do it better, and prob run quieter as it can cool at a lower rpm than the H100

#

My PC after changing to the braided GPU cables

#

versus before with the clunky default cables

bright oak
#

and yea ill get the cables, just need to decide on pc case colour by 4080 super release

#

and that cooler

hardy pulsar
#

Top one, no need for the link variant

bright oak
#

also with this current case, it says this when paired with the 4090 placeholder (4080 is out of stock). will this be an issue for the 4080 super?

hardy pulsar
#

No, support not neeed with vertical install, as it's better supported. And top is nornally the best option for AIO mounting

bright oak
#

Does this look right?

hardy pulsar
#
  1. Up the warranty to Silver, only costs £5.
  2. Did you want the AIO with the LCD screen on the pump? Your original spec had it
bright oak
#

what is the AIO, i thought that was the cooling system but i dont think im right

hardy pulsar
#

This is the AIO, all in one, the CPU cooler

#

Your original spec had the 240 version with the LCD:

#

But looks like the 280 version with LCD is out of stock

bright oak
#

is it jus the lights im missin?

hardy pulsar
#

The LCD screen will allow you to show stats like CPU temp, animated gifs, it's basically a small screen on the pump. the Cappellix version just has a load of RBG leds that you can set to unicorn rainbow vomit etc

bright oak
#

how would i get the LCD version?

hardy pulsar
#

You could buy the non LCD version now, and add the LCD later. Or wait for it to come in stock, but no idea when that might be

bright oak
#

ill jus stick with the non LCD version

#

where would it say LCD?

#

nvm nvm

hardy pulsar
potent harbor
bright oak
#

the LCD does sound cool, but i dont think i would notice it.

hardy pulsar
#

Yeah LCD can be finicky.

#

But I'm biased, I'd go all stealth black if I was choosing an AIO

bright oak
#

you not a fan of rgbs?

hardy pulsar
#

Nah, certainly not rainbow changing ones, I have what little RGB in my case now set to a low white.

#

No RGB = no software to run it = less issues = less € spent on non performance fluff

bright oak
#

so this quite (4090 swapped with 4080 super) and its good to buy.

#

i like the idea of monocolour rgb more then multi colour

hardy pulsar
#

I can't see any issues with that spec, but maybe someone else might have a comment. Different people, different perspective/opinion

#

(just always remember I'm right of course)

bright oak
#

yea you probably saved me a couple hundred, appreciate ye

hardy pulsar
#

pics in #1128254319859355698 is the tax

bright oak
#

i woulda jus added stuff cuz high £ number = good

#

i gotchu went it comes ill take a picture of it

bright oak
#

btw this PC is wifi compatible right, cuz i dont have immediate access to ethernet

#

like onboard network card is fine?

hardy pulsar
#

Yeah the motherboard has built in wifi and ethernet

bright oak
#

ok thanks.

pure quail
#

Yes 100% nice monitor and good brand choice. although with a 4090 you could (if you have the funds) go for a 4K monitor ? Alienware have just released their new AW3225QF – 32″ 4K 240Hz monitor which looks insane!

#

Or if you want to go bigger (than what you already have) but stay at 1440p I highly recommend the AW3423DW or DWF

mystic gust
#

I have the 165hz version of it (AW2724DM) which is good so far

bright oak
#

do i set that to top?

#

(bout to buy it)

hardy pulsar
#

Yep

#

Side and top are the options for the Y60, top would look best

bright oak
#

is it worth payin 69 for fast trackin?

#

and thoughts on case?

potent harbor
#

Depends how impatient you are as to whether teh fast-track is worth it, but dont skimp on something else to get fast-track

bright oak
#

i am pretty impatient, so imma go wit it

#

i been gassing myself up for it since earlier this month

potent harbor
#

Remember if you get fast-track then make sure you really have made your mind up though as there wil be little chance to make last-minute changes

bright oak
#

does the build look right to you, im checkin now to make sure i didnt forget to add/change stuff

#

also thermal paste, standard or artic?, or does it not matter?

potent harbor
#

The Corsair AIO's already have decent thermal paste pre-applied, so leave it with standard

#

And ditch the norton free trial - its bloatware - Windows Defender does a perfectly good job for anti-virus anyway (and comes free with windows)

bright oak
#

do i jus keep delivery the same

potent harbor
#

It only affects what happens once its been dispatched - which is by default a next-working day delivery, so I know a number of people have upgraded it to sat/sun delivery if they think it'll be dispatched on a friday so that they dont have to wait til the monday for delivery

bright oak
#

pretty sure with fast track it will be a sunday delivery right?

#

3 day as fast track its wednesday past midday

#

so build starts tommorow

bright oak
#

With silver warranty do i still need to buy the protection?

hardy pulsar
#

Warranty protects against component failure, protection insurces against theft and accidential damage normally.

#

So if you think there's a risk of your PC being stolen, soaked in water, knocked off the desk by a cat, etc, you might consider the protection to be a worthwhile payment. Otherwise, if you think it's low risk or that you're covered under an existing home and/or contents insurance policy, you can skip

bright oak
#

ill jus get the 1 year

bright oak
#

Brought it, Thanks for all the help with sorting the specs and other stuff.

potent harbor
bright oak
#

i think i payed for sunday delivery

potent harbor
#

Well if it doesnt get dispatched by friday its not arriving at the weekend as I believe there are no collections by DPD on saturdays as it is not a 'working day'

bright oak
#

i paid for the sunday but i guess if its not ready it will jus be delivered the monday or tuesday nyway

#

right?

potent harbor
#

If it is not dispatched on friday you need to change it back to normal delivery (ie mon-fri) and you will be refunded

bright oak
#

how would i go about that?

potent harbor
#

You'd just go amend the order - you can do this from the PCS site

bright oak
#

im going from a 1660 super to a 4080 super, its like a 3X fps (functionality?) type difference isnt it?

potent harbor
#

Its a hefty increase, dont know how much, havent checked, probably more though

bright oak
#

im gassed icl
