Hello! I'm looking for a little bit of advice geared towards someone who understands literally nothing about gaming laptops (or tech in general). I'm in desperate need of a new gaming laptop. Please don't judge, but all I want is to play the Arkham Series, RDR2, Fallout 4 and Sims 4 at a reasonably high graphics setting without my laptop threatening to burn me and/or die in the process.

I was looking at this one specifically (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/elimina-pro-ii-16/)

Specs I've chosen are:

Intel Core i7 14 Core Processor 13700H (5.0GHz Turbo)

64GB PCS PRO SODIMM DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 32GB)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 - 6.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM -DirectX 12.1

4TB CORSAIR MP600 PRO NVMe PCle M.2 SSD

Is this... enough? Or too much? Thank you in advance to anyone who is willing to help a complete idiot!

let's start from the top, whats the budget? and if you're not on GBP, let us know where the laptop is going

ok so, this is coming out at about £1'497, which is definitely my budget, I could maybe (with a few more months of savings) get to £2k? but around 1.5 is ideal!

so 1.5k, right, then let me see what we can sort

thank you!

this has it's own OS drive to keep it fast, and a 2TB storage drive for games and whatnot

eager garnet
#

thank you so much!! so what I had above seems like more (or at least more storage) but for the same price than this one. am I doing something wrong there? have I gone overkill?

#

and I can see there are two SSDs, I'm completely unclear about why two is better than one (really lacking knowledge here lol)

it is less, true, but the more you fill an OS drive, the slower the PC gets, so I went with 1 smaller drive for the OS, and 1 bigger for general storage

AH! i see! that makes sense!!

#

thank you so much 🙂

you could beef the storage drive to the 4tb you chose, but that inflates the price to 1604gbp

#

and as you system above, you had 64gb RAM, if all you want is gaming, then 16 GB RAM is fine, 32 is fine too if you want to have lots of elbow room

amazing, I really appreciate that, I definitely needed someone with more know-how to break it down for me! thank you so much again! 🙂

though I gotta ask, whats the reason for a laptop? space constraints or just moving around too much to use a desktop?

eager garnet
#

space constraints for sure, although in future, with more space I'd hope to have both

oh yeah that looks... amazing! might force myself to wait a couple months and opt for this one instead! thank you, you've made this so much easier honestly!

no worries, bill is in the mail, payment was due 5 weeks ago.

bad jokes aside, as a former laptop gamer, I know the pain, through beware, laptops will always be behind a desktop in price performance, such is the cost of miniaturization, and the 4070/4060 gpus will be far better than their mobile counterparts when just comparing performance alone
