I don't have an answer, but I support the question! I have my first scaley baby, a banana ball python (no name yet) and while I feel I did good research and have an overall handle on things, bits like that I don't know.

I figure if my little noodle sheds in there, I'll change it out, but if he doesn't how long should I wait?

Since I only offer a humid hide when I know my snakes are shedding, I will just change it when I need it. However, I would say at least every 1-2 weeks would be fine for a change.
