Hello! I just started playing this stone-age gem of a game today. I love it a lot so far aside from one little problem: the fishing game. I'm a low-vision gamer with limited eyesight. Unfortunately, I'm really struggling with the fishing mini game, having only managed to catch one fish by luck. I find the fish move around too fast for me, and it's difficult to focus on the pointer location and where the fish are going at once. Unfortunately, I bought the game on PS5, so it's not like I can just put in a mod to skip the fishing game... I don't know how exactly how you could solve this accessibility hurtle, but I'd love to see something like, say, an option to skip the mini game in an accessibility settings menu, or at least to tone it down to be more easily played by someone with limited eyesight who's not exactly good at tracking fast objects or tiny cursors! Other than that, looks like you guys have done a beautiful job with this game!

I'm wondering what kind of features might help for the specific case of low vision (mostly thinking of things that can be turned on/off or like, have a slider for how much of it do you want). Do you have experience with a similar style of game that is more accessible?

Like, initial thoughts of options to explore and I'd love to see if you think they might help and how much of a difference you think they'll make:

  • Fish speed (a slider/drop-down menu to allow adjusting fish speed. This would help meet players at the level of difficulty and accessibility they're looking for- including dealing with hard to play controls)
  • Customizable Cursor (having more options to pick from, or even just size but maybe colour too, for the cursor in the fishing minigame, so it's easier to find on screen- could help with specific types of limited vision)
  • Fish Magnetization (any way of adjusting from on/off to slider through dropdown of specific options. Gives the cursor some amount of 'magnetization' once following a fish, to help stick to it. Can help with tricky controls too, as well as any struggles with following the fish or with moving the cursor, but will also make it harder to intentionally move off the fish- for example if you want to try to catch a different one)

Audio cues could also be helpful, but I'm having a harder time thinking how they'd be implemented. There's already a cue for when to get off the fish to not be detected, and when a bar is gained... and the fish move in the 2D space, so how close it is doesn't sound like the most helpful metric...
(I'm guessing audio cues help with taming for example? As well as the predictable paths and small area you can focus on?)

I'm gonna change the suggestion's title though from hope developers C: fishing accessibility suggestion for low-vision players to better fishing accessibility for low-vision players so it's easier to understand when looking through sweatsmile_Vuak
