As the title says, I think it would make a lot of sense for you to have to extract seeds from your own plants to get domesticated variants after a while.
To be honest makes very little sense that knowledge of a plant suddenly makes it change variants? Why would knowing about strawberries let me harvest domesticated seeds from a wild plant…. would also let us preserve the wild variants which I think are beautiful to have.
