I had the same experience: no "ghost" icon on the timeline to automatically pause the lesson.
Do understand that you can pause any lesson yourself at any time to work with the lesson code as it exists at that point. That's what I did in this instance. The only significant drawback I've seen in doing this is that there is no "CHECK SOLUTION" button to proceed with the lesson, but you can proceed by pressing the play button (▶️) on the timeline.
