#CASE II/III detection

Last night in CASE III conditions, Paddles was giving LIG on every pass. Would it be possible to detect the current recovery conditions and rate/grade appropriately?

Hiya,
That's indeed on my backlog.
Weather detection is rather difficult in DCS. The new weather system doesn't give back as much data.
The actual CASE that the carrier inside of DCS acts under isn't accessible either.

But the first implementation will at least have Sunrise and Sunset reasons for the case III

#

Case II will probably be different.
Either Case I or Case III, since Case II (as far as I understand the documentation) can technically be graded as Case I, since after they are within 5Nm technically they should be able to see it.

In any case, the split between Case I and Case III will already help out a lot

Alright.
So here a little summary of the soon to be implemented CASE I v III checking.
Only time of day will be checked in the initial implementation.
(Reason: DCS' weather isn't checkable to the extend I'd want at this time, nor can dynamic weather be accounted for at all.)

Sunrise - 30 < landing > Sunset + 30 => Case III
In English: Between half an hour AFTER sunset and HALF an hour BEFORE sunrise (this is "technical sunrise") will be regarded as case III.
Any other condition will be regarded CASE I at this time.

This approach shall be utilized whenever existing weather at the ship is below Case II minimums and during all flight operations conducted between one-half hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise except as modified by the OTC or carrier commanding officer.

Sunset and Sunrise is currently calculated on the location of the ship.
If the calculations seem off, please notify me with specifics. I'm not 100% how the time offsets are done in DCS.

Overriding

Currently you can only override to CASE III. You cannot go from a CASE III time to a CASE I as that would mean you'd expect pilots to fly blind, which logically wouldn't make much sense.
As a mission editor you can set a flag that will be read by the grader
Like so:

#

Visuals

Data was added to the performance record and to the images. Filtering options might follow later.

#

Grading

Currently the only difference in grading is that the LIG / NESA will not be evaluated (hopefully the latter would never ever have shown up anyway ๐Ÿ˜„ )

@livid slate
Let me know what you think

#

This will come into effect for landings AFTER this moment

that sounds great @oblique crown , thanks heaps.

can I confirm that this flag is only read once at mission start? so if in the case:

  • the mission has case I wx preset
  • the flag is set to 3
  • during the mission, a script/menu changes the flag to 1
    will paddles remain at 3 or switch to 1? @oblique crown

the reason I ask is we have some dcs server bot profiles that allow us to switch weather on a miz for different CASE conditions. I think it will work fine, I'll give it a test.

It sounds like I can just leave the flag set to 1, and paddles will override it to 3 if the time doesn't permit case 1.

and I can also create a menu to change the flag to 3 if they want to practice case III day

I will have a further look at weather classification at some point, but it was not part of this version ๐Ÿ™‚

all good, I appreciate this as is

Also be aware that if a user sets the flag to 3 that goes for the entire mission.
It says "user flag" but it really is a mission wide flag.
Just making sure ๐Ÿ™‚

Great! Thank ๐Ÿ™‚

Will leave it open for further work for weather

Added a 'Mission Start' trigger and placed this as the action, but still getting LIG on Case 3 pattern. Anything I need to add?

@knotty walrus
Sorry about the very late response. Did you get it to work?
If not let me know!
I'll look into asap if it still works
