Figured I might as well start documenting everything I'm working on.
Day 1 (2/26) - Configured, and tested Backups for the kids' laptop to my TrueNAS File Server for the inevitable time that they destroy them. Decided to use Veeam Endpoint Backup so it's fully automated and still lightweight. Getting it to talk over SMB is a little finicky to setup but seems to be solid after that.

I'll agree with veeam over SMB being finicky
Did you run into the bug where even a share open to everyone requires a password?
Not this time surprisingly, but I've run into it multiple times in the past, yes. Forget what I had done before to fix that issue
you can put in literally anything into the username and password field and it will accept it
lol
janky
Huh I've had it deny when I was having the issue before lol
Day 2 - Fun day of figuring out what died in my File Server. 4 drives started showing massive read errors out of nowhere. Turns out the SAS expander or cable to it from the HBA died. Rerouted everything to the HBA directly now since my setup has changed since I first built it, and all seems to be ok for now.
Day 3 - Upgraded all 5 XCP-NG hosts to 128GB RAM. Currently running memtest on them and all good so far. Hopefully stays that way. New addition to the rack here soon once the rails come in. Picked up a Cisco C240 M4 for dirt cheap loaded. 40 threads and 128GB DDR4, and 5 1TB SAS drives
Day 4 - Continuing prep work for the File Server rebuild. 4x Intel Optane drives for a Special Metadata device for TrueNAS, and have one more I was gunna use for SLOG that idk if it is worth it now. Drives should come in tomorrow then we can really get to work.
Day 5 - Going through all the computers in the household and updating BIOS/Firmwares. Been slacking on this recently, and the downtime from waiting on parts for my truenas box has given me some time
Day 6-8 - Rebuilt and made a couple modifications to my File Server hardware, will finish setting up when my last piece comes in, in a couple days.
Day 9 - Picked up a "broken/parts" Ender 3 v2 for dirt cheap locally, ended up just needing a new extruder lever, so have that coming in as well as some filament. Looks like I'm starting down the 3d printing rabbit hole as well now ๐
Day 10 - Installed the new Dell 10Gb switch in the rack and finished up some reorganization and recabling.
Day 11 - Repaired and did a print with the new E3v2 and came out really good for my first one
Day 12 - Finished configuring the new TrueNAS Scale server, and starting to point everything to it again. Having an issue with Veeam again where it doesn't want to back up to/even see the SMB/CIFS share during the backup process, even though I can access it, and the Backup settings show the available space properly.
@halcyon moat Any thoughts on that? Can't say I've run into this issue before ^
The only issue I've had with the windows client is it refusing to connect to a share without a password
Day 13 - Got the CRTouch installed on the 3D Printer and ran a couple test prints. Super impressed tbh.
Also testing out some new backup software as I'm done fighting with Veeam all the time.
