This is my most recent video on my YT channel but I've only made 6 videos ever so It's not the best. I would love to know how to make my videos better though. I use davinci resolve to edit. (Also im not sure about this feedback system or if I have to give my own feedback before I post this, so sorry if this is breaking any rules)

The warning is partially for dramatic effect but it is a wee bit spooky so...

Sorry for the bad audio when screaming n such I had my sensitivity all the way up I'll fix that in the next video.

!Credit to JustErikSK on CurseForge for the modpack!

here are my thoughts:

  • It's a bit odd to have a VO saying "You may feel as though... you're safe" while showing sheep that certainly do not look normal or safe
  • I see what you were going putting exclamation marks on both sides of some of the text in the disclaimer, but I think it would be better executed with actual warning icons instead.
  • I'd recommend recording at a higher bitrate if possible (consider lowering the recording resolution to 1080p if needed depending on your computer's ability), especially when you're going to be playing dark games. The color banding from the lack of dynamic range + the blockiness due to the low bitrate + the darkness of the video make the dark sections difficult to watch. I found myself struggling to make out what was going on on screen at these points, which I know can be a part of the experience when playing horror games, but it's often nice to at least brighten up those sections a bit for the viewer. I attached a screenshot of a video frame (1080p) that I brightened to show just how far the quality can fall with low dynamic range.
  • The game volume is a little low. I don't know if you're using multitrack recording, but I recommend setting that up if you aren't so you can correct things like audio balancing issues in post.
  • Try to make sure the volume of each audio track is as consistent as possible (except during stylized edits that may beak that rule). I noticed huge jumps in voice volume at multiple points (Ex. 2:17, 3:29). This may be what you were talking about in the description but I figured I'd mention it here just in case.
  • 5:31 was funny i chuckled
  • What is happening to the video at 6:57? Were there stray keyframes you forgot to remove or something lmao EDIT: after seeing 11:28, it was probably in the game as part of the modpack, but I'd recommend making that clear somehow in the video to reduce confusion cause it really does look like an editing mistake at 6:57

  • ok which mod developer forgot to put the apostrophe at 8:20
  • There are some cuts that don't flow well in my opinion. For example, at 9:09, the video cuts directly from being about to exit the house to staring at an unknown entity somewhere else in the world (it's not clear immediately due to the framing that it's still in the village). I think it would improve continuity if you included the part where you actually stumbled upon it. Essentially just try to make the scenes in general flow from one to the next as naturally as possible. This may require (tasteful) transitions to show the passage of time, for example. I know this is easier said than done given that you have to work with the footage you have. Another example is at 6:09 when you have to respawn. We don't see or hear the button click and don't see the world load in, meaning it's unclear how much time has passed and how far you've moved since then in the next shot.
  • It's very possible that I'm just blind but it took me a few replays of the 11:15 bit to notice that that the mooshroom had a knife in it and that's why the video was pixelated
  • The modpack isn't linked to or even named at all (I'm pretty sure) in the entire video. You gave credit to the author, but at least give the name! If it's a custom modpack for the video, I'd make that clear somewhere.

  • I found the video overall to be quite confusing as viewers were given little more than "monsters come out at night and you're being watched" as context for what was happening. I wasn't sure what the goal was, meaning I had no idea how much progress you were making nor how much was lost on each death. Additionally, thing like the "Miner Moon" at the beginning didn't seem to be expanded upoin much at all, and if they were, it wasn't made clear.

Other than these things, it's a pretty solid video. I can absolutely see this channel gaining a large audience as the videos improve.
Make sure to consider this feedback in the context of your channel vision. I don't want people making videos they like less just because of some guy on the internet thinking something should be some other way.
