#Dog care/needs?

I have the same question. My chickens are loving me. Dog not so much. The one thing I haven't tried yet is taking her for walks consistently (every day, or perhaps more). And even then, I don't know if there would be a distance threshold to raise approval/affection. I've put out two food dishes and two water dishes, just to be sure she gets those. Also, according to another conversation, the bone doesn't do anything. So yeah, not sure!
Oh, another thing I thought of is that each animal has a temperment description when you buy/adopt them. I didn't pay attention to it when I got my dog. I did read them with the chickens (interestingly enough). So perhaps our dogs are slower to trust. Pretty cool and deep if that's an actual mechanic in the game. I wish the NPC relationship part was that complex and subtle.
this was my thinking as well is that the traits make them more finicky about mess or food or attention so they may be harder to please i got cow got sheep cow and goat livin their best life sheep even now seems uninmpressed
I don't know if it's because I was walking my dog, but eventually feeding, watering, petting, and walking, she maxed affection. Now I have a cat too, and it's the same pattern...takes a few days to start the bar filling up, but it's going now. So maybe there's a curve built into mechanic.
