Had this happen a couple times now. First time was once he reached stage 3 and summoned all the other bugs in. Fought the scorpions and roaches and then AXL was just gone and left a roach roast near the entrance.
Second time was early in the battle near the entrance, AXL just up and disappeared and left a roach roast.
