Not sure about Webflow but in Figma x2 should definitely mean twice as large in dimensions. File size might scale differently depending on the file format though!
Do you have an example where the resolution is coming out smaller?

Guess the main benefit is getting you a higher quality image for retina devices! So if that matters for you, and for those specific elements of the design (E.g. a big Hero image) then you should definitely do that!

To be honest I'm not sure why you wouldn't unless file sizes end up being large enough to affect page performance! Hope someone else can chime in!
