So I'm making a deck with [[ Myrel, Shield of Argive ]] and was mainly wondering about

A. How to keep Myrel alive, if she etb I have a turn to protect her, but I'm not sure how to get around counters or what cards I should run later

B. The wincon, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get up to 30+ soldier tokens. I have a halo fountain which maybe I could win off of but the majority of the time I think I'll be winning off swinging

C. Good cards to run, I think I have a lot of the soldiers, but I'm not sure about non soldiers worth running

Bracket 3 mono white is the aim

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

budget?

#

[[Cavern of Souls]] would get around counters. [[Reprieve]] I like as a white answer in general. Anything that phases out your board is nice, as it'd keep the tokens.

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

Budget would probably be under 300, I already have the commander

opaque robin
#

Did you check out the non-soldiers that make soldiers like [[Thousand Moons Smithy]], [[Basri Ket]] and [[Call the Coppercoats]]?

vernal treeBOT
#

Legendary Artifact
When Thousand Moons Smithy enters, create a white Gnome Soldier artifact creature token with "This token's power and toughness are each equal to the number of artifacts and/or creatures you control."
At the beginning of your first main phase, you may tap five untapped artifacts and/or creatures you control. If you do, transform Thousand Moons Smithy.

Barracks of the Thousand
Legendary Artifact Land
(Transforms from Thousand Moons Smithy.)
manat: Add manaw.
Whenever you cast an artifact or creature spell using mana produced by Barracks of the Thousand, create a white Gnome Soldier artifact creature token with "This token's power and toughness are each equal to the number of artifacts and/or creatures you control."

#

Legendary Planeswalker — Basri
+1: Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature. It gains indestructible until end of turn.
−2: Whenever one or more nontoken creatures attack this turn, create that many 1/1 white Soldier creature tokens that are tapped and attacking.
−6: You get an emblem with "At the beginning of combat on your turn, create a 1/1 white Soldier creature token, then put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control."
Loyalty: 3

balmy dawn
#

Reprieve is really tempting

balmy dawn
#

Basri is for the indestructible? I don't like that as much because Myrel isn't vulnerable to removal during my turn, it would only be for combat damage

opaque robin
#

Basri is for doubling the tokens, not necessary though

#

Was mostly just asking if you took a look at all the cards that make soldier tokens.

#

(I misread Basri, I'll be honest here)

balmy dawn
#

I think I looked through a good bit, I definitely missed a few of those. I really like thousand moon smithy

#

I got [[ elspeth, storm slayer ]] as a token doubler

vernal treeBOT
#

Legendary Planeswalker — Elspeth
If one or more tokens would be created under your control, twice that many of those tokens are created instead.
+1: Create a 1/1 white Soldier creature token.
0: Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control. Those creatures gain flying until your next turn.
−3: Destroy target creature an opponent controls with mana value 3 or greater.
Loyalty: 5

opaque robin
#

[[Skullclamp]], [[Haliya, Guided by Light]], [[Idol of Oblivion]], [[Caretaker's Talent]]

vernal treeBOT
#

Legendary Creature — Human Soldier
Whenever Haliya or another creature or artifact you control enters, you gain 1 life.
At the beginning of your end step, draw a card if you've gained 3 or more life this turn.
Warp manaw (You may cast this card from your hand for its warp cost. Exile this creature at the beginning of the next end step, then you may cast it from exile on a later turn.)
3/3

opaque robin
#

[[Esper Sentinel]] and to a lesser extent [[Enduring Innocence]], [[Welcoming Vampire]] and [[Mentor of the Meek]]

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

[[Slate of ancestry]] is probably slow in bracket 3, [[Thopter Shop]] and [[Tocasia's Welcome]] also exist.

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
balmy dawn
opaque robin
#

Your soldier tokens from Myrel are artifact soldiers.

#

It's not a strong card though.

balmy dawn
#

Oh nevermind I didn't realize they were artifacts

opaque robin
#

But if you end up going for some kind of token sacrifice engine, it could be nice to know it exists

balmy dawn
#

I have a skullclamp and ashnod altar, so I do have some sacrifice stuff

opaque robin
#

[[Rumor Gatherer]] and [[Symmetry Matrix]]

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

And then [[Vanquisher's Banner]] and [[Chronicle of Victory]] but those are mostly useful if you run many actual soldiers, not just card that make soldier tokens.

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

Though the Chronicle also is a pretty decent anthem too.

#

[[Thraben Charm]], [[Akroma's Will]] are great in go wide white decks, also in this one.

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

The nature of Myrel is that you often end up with a lot of untapped artifact soldiers. There are some catapult soldiers, like [[Catapult Master]] that make good use of that, but there's also convoke or other 'tap an untapped' effects you could use them for.

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

Would really cheap soldiers be worth it to add? So I already get a lot of value from the first attack

#

I do like catapult master

opaque robin
#

Well, yeah, some cheap soldiers are really great.

#

You could consider your curve. Do you want to go turn 1/2/3 soldier and then turn 4 Myrel? Or turn 2 manarock turn 3 Myrel?

balmy dawn
balmy dawn
opaque robin
balmy dawn
#

Yeah that's a lot of life gain for a 3 drop soldier

opaque robin
#

[[Cenn's Tactician]], Esper Sentinel, [[Goldmeadow Carrier]], [[Gideon's Lawkeeper]], [[Haazda Marshal]]

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

[[Loyal Sentry]], [[Recruitment Officer]], [[Soldier of the Pantheon]], [[Soltari Foot Soldier]]

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

[[Spectrum Sentinel]], [[Wyrm's Crossing Patrol]] and perhaps [[Zack Fair]] are the only mv 1 soldiers I would consider.

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

There is a case to be made for using your turn one play for a tapped land or [[Aether Vial]] too.

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

I doubt you'll want to run all those 1 drops though, because between the average commander monster, they're not super impressive.

#

I suppose it also depends a bit on your meta, do you expect to be able to attack freely with Wyrm's Crossing Patrol and Haazda Marshal? Are there multicolored creatures that you'd really like to block?

#

[[Reconaissance]] is another white aggro staple because it allows you to always attack

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

(you can use the ability after damage)

balmy dawn
balmy dawn
balmy dawn
#

What about [[ cathars crusade]]

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

[[ elspeth tirel ]] seems like another good Planeswalker

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

[[ archangel elspeth ]] I kind of like for invasion, and [[ elspeth, sun's champion]] for extra tokens

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

Ive taken my myrell deck apart but i found playing her behind curve and giving her haste was safest option

balmy dawn
#

I guess I don't really want the commander tax to accumulate

languid arch
#

Yeah or 3 if your doing white ramp

balmy dawn
#

I tried putting in a lot of ramp

languid arch
balmy dawn
#

Would [[ springleaf drum ]] be decent if I'm playing mono white?

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
languid arch
#

Their mostly colourless but they geet you ahead

balmy dawn
#

Is [[ karoo ]] considered good?

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
languid arch
#

Mono white gets ahead by being behind

balmy dawn
#

[[ keeper of the accords]] seems particularly good in this deck

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

It goes crazy

opaque robin
languid arch
#

Skull clamp is a must if in budget

balmy dawn
balmy dawn
balmy dawn
#

Is there a viable scenario in which you path to exile one of your own creatures to ramp?

opaque robin
#

^ that works.

languid arch
#

But thats last ditch

balmy dawn
#

Better to save the removal?

languid arch
#

Yep

opaque robin
#

Typically you want to keep the removal yeah

languid arch
#

The about of times some one cast an exploration effect then played merit lage thespian stage where i live is sickening

#

@balmy dawn how bigs the budget

balmy dawn
#

I'm assuming the soldier cost reducers like [[ Daru war chief]]

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
opaque robin
vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

Go in on lands, creatures can wait

balmy dawn
#

I guess I was kinda planning on running just a ton of plains

opaque robin
#

I think that'll work for the most part to be honest.

balmy dawn
#

Is [[ cosmogrand zenith ]] at all worth it?

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

I guess yeah the counters are also good

opaque robin
#

There are some utility lands that would fit well though [[Abandoned Air Temple]], [[Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire]], [[Minas Tirith]] and [[Windbrisk Heights]] I'd probably consider.

vernal treeBOT
#

Legendary Land
Minas Tirith enters tapped unless you control a legendary creature.
manat: Add manaw.
mana1manaw, manat: Draw a card. Activate only if you attacked with two or more creatures this turn.
"I would see the White Tree in flower again in the courts of the kings, and Minas Tirith in peace." —Faramir

#

Land
Hideaway 4 (When this land enters, look at the top four cards of your library, exile one face down, then put the rest on the bottom in a random order.)
This land enters tapped.
manat: Add manaw.
manaw, manat: You may play the exiled card without paying its mana cost if you attacked with three or more creatures this turn.

balmy dawn
#

Windbrisk heights typically feels slow to me tho tbh

opaque robin
#

Cosmogrand seems like a very good soldier, does depend on the curve though.

balmy dawn
#

I definitely have an eiganjo I can spare

#

[[ boromir, warden of the tower ]] and [[ selfless spirit]] would probably be worthwhile, right

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

Especially boromir

opaque robin
#

Yeah, typically Windbrisk Heights gets better if you happen to run a few cards that are high on the curve. And you do need a good moment to play it (typically turn 1 because most decks lack 1 drops). Maybe this is not the deck.

languid arch
#

[[Shrine of nix]] [[three tree city]] [[urza cave]][[emeria, the skyruin]][[minus tirith]][[desert of the true]][[ishgard, the holy see]] [[arid archway]][[guildless commons]][[adagia, windleswept bastion]][[lotus field]][[remote farm]]

opaque robin
#

Boromir makes a lot of sense.

#

Ah, yes scryfall is turned off when you link too many. (over 4 I believe)

balmy dawn
#

[[Shrine of nix]] [[three tree city]] [[urza cave]][[emeria, the skyruin]]

vernal treeBOT
#

No card found for “Shrine of nix”

opaque robin
#

[[Nyktos, Shrine to Nyx]]

languid arch
#

Those ones over the rest

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

The tokens

opaque robin
#

Well, it doesn't see the color of the tokens, but the mana symbols on your permanents

languid arch
balmy dawn
#

][[minus tirith]][[desert of the true]][[ishgard, the holy see]] [[arid archway]]

vernal treeBOT

#

Land — Desert
This land enters tapped.
When this land enters, return a land you control to its owner's hand. If another Desert was returned this way, surveil 1. (Look at the top card of your library. You may put it into your graveyard.)
manat: Add manacmanac.

balmy dawn
languid arch
#

You have 3 creatures other than myrel its mana neutral at least

opaque robin
#

Desert of the True seems terrible, probably meant a different one? Or is the plan to run the desertfetching creature?

languid arch
balmy dawn
#

[[guildless commons]][[adagia, windleswept bastion]][[lotus field]][[remote farm]]

languid arch
#

Bounce it and use it to cycle

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

What's the point of lotus field?

languid arch
#

Lotus is great with keeper if the accord

opaque robin
#

Hmm, so in the plan Kris presents, I suppose you're running more top end soldiers to make use of all that mana.

balmy dawn
#

And then a ton of catch up spells?

opaque robin
#

Lotus Field allows you to sacrifice lands while retaining high mana production. This means you get to use catchup ramp. (Ramp that only works if you have fewer lands than your opponents)

languid arch
#

Not necessarily top end soldiers just spam more out quickly

balmy dawn
#

Is that really worth it? I feel like there's a decent chance there's a green player who ramps a ton

languid arch
#

If you get 8 soldiers out turn 4 then play myreil with haste enabler turn 5 its a win

languid arch
#

Cause then you ramp

#

Also depends turn order

#

If it you a green player then 2 non ramping players lotus is good with archomancers map

opaque robin
#

How do you get 8 soldiers out on turn 4 with catchup ramp?

languid arch
#

Talking ideally

opaque robin
#

I mean, even ideally

languid arch
#

Your right max is probably 5

balmy dawn
#

What haste enablers other than [[ lightning greaves ]] and [[ Swiftfoot boots]]

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

I'd probably prefer steadily building up the board, holding mana open for protection. Rather than relying on the ramp plan. (Mostly because I like games that revolve around board presence more than ramp, personal preference)

languid arch
opaque robin
#

There is also [[Crashing Drawbridge]]

vernal treeBOT
opaque robin
#

The drawbridge isn't super effective in the deck though, as you can't attack with all the tokens Myrel makes, since they're spawned after attacks.

languid arch
#

The boots from thunder junction, their basically the swifty your mom say that are at home

balmy dawn
languid arch
#

And cloak

#

[[Nurtures presence]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

Is really good by the way with myrell

balmy dawn
#

I would just need to go through my crimson vow bulk

languid arch
#

Make myrell unblockable and kill the blue or black player in one hit

opaque robin
#

[[Mother of Runes]] is unfortunately not a soldier. It is a rather good piece of protection though, especially potent as it also allows you to push through blockers.

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

Would [[ dranith magistrate]] be good for removal bait?

languid arch
vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

Whats the bracket level

balmy dawn
#

3

opaque robin
#

I think you don't want to play Drannith Magistrate in bracket 3.

languid arch
#

Yeah

balmy dawn
#

Too much of a threat?

opaque robin
#

Players are likely not prepared for it and then don't get to play their deck.

languid arch
#

Thats how you make friends in the parking lot out back

opaque robin
#

Which may make them sad.

balmy dawn
#

That's a good point

#

It's a weird card for commander

opaque robin
#

It has a home in the higher brackets for sure.

languid arch
#

You keep it aside for that guy that swears his decks only a 2 but hes somehow got turbo denonic thasa

#

@balmy dawn you got [[platoon dispenser]]

vernal treeBOT
balmy dawn
#

Which would be harder to remove, enchantments or Planeswalkers? ( For token doublers )

#

I have an elspeth storm slayer

languid arch
#

Run it

opaque robin
#

Enchantment are typically easier to keep on the battlefield. But Elspeth is spectacular. The evasion is a rather important ability too.

languid arch
#

So planeswalkers have less direct removal

balmy dawn
opaque robin
#

Card draw

balmy dawn
#

Would it be worth an [[ anointed procession]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

This is why suggested the ramp

balmy dawn
#

For 50 dollars

opaque robin
#

No

languid arch
#

Soublers sorta overrated in my experience

opaque robin
#

Myrel is rather potent at making tokens even without a doubler.

languid arch
#

And your mono whit so you dont have alot of uses for em

balmy dawn
#

Is [[ disenchant]] still considered good removal?

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

Yes

#

That and genourus gift

balmy dawn
#

I need to add generous gift

languid arch
#

Get lost is an option as well jusr costs a bit

opaque robin
#

Also consider this: [[Conqueror's Pledge]] makes 6 tokens. Attacking with Myrel makes 7 more, next turn she makes 14. If you had a token doubler instead of the Pledge, you'd have way less. Making tokens may well be more effective than token doublers. Especially when you start the buildup.

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

And run alot of anthems for soldiers

#

[[Adaptive Automaton]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Banner of Kinship]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

Bloodline Pretender

balmy dawn
#

[[ valiant veteran ]] seems like a no brainee

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Chronicle of Victory]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Gathering Stone]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Graaz, Unstoppable Juggernaut]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Maskwood Nexus]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Metallic Mimic]] [[Obelisk of Urd]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Patchwork Banner]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

[[Progenitor's Icon]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

And finally [[roaming throne]]

vernal treeBOT
languid arch
#

@balmy dawn thrones best option out of doublers

#

Swing make 5 on first trigger secound trigger make 10

opaque robin
#

Probably leave that for later though. The pricetag is significant on the throne.

languid arch
#

Yeah i forgot that
