#Y'shtola Communal Brewing
1 messages · Page 4 of 1
What are the black and white versions? vigilance and deathtouch?
maybe? I don't recall
Anger is basically the only one I see lol
hah, same
[[valor]]
[[filth]]
Creature — Incarnation
Swampwalk (This creature can't be blocked as long as defending player controls a Swamp.)
As long as this card is in your graveyard and you control a Swamp, creatures you control have swampwalk.
"As the portal closed, Filth oozed through. The stench of evil followed it in." —Scroll of Beginnings
2/2
both seem good tbh
I'm optimizing in edhrec. I'll downsize from there to get it more reasonable
I don't know if i'd called edhrec cards optimized
sorry, I meant archidekt
edhrec hasn't been very helpful, since it's only giving me the options that all other decks use, or the Y'shtola precon
but I do use it to look for cards similar to others
in that way it's useful
Yeah, it's helpful for some recs
without it I wouldn't have found [[creeping chill]] 4 cost for 8 damage with Y'shtola out...
Hmmm, not a huge fan
For a card that just touches life totals at sorcery speed, I'd want a lot more
Oh, I have these too... [[exanguinate]],[[drain life]], [[bond of agony]]... etc
Oooh, I really like bond of agony lmfao
right?!
Although it's a lot of mana if you want something useful actually
nvm then tbh
Because it's x mana and x life
My deck just has the drain and burn as a side effect of casting spells, and not the primary driver
So I don't think I'd consider any of those
That's what makes flexible commanders neat though
I think bond is superior to all of them, since you can pay in a lot more life than others with how much you gain throughout the game
Artifact — Equipment
Job select (When this Equipment enters, create a 1/1 colorless Hero creature token, then attach this to it.)
Equipped creature gets +2/+2, has lifelink and "Other commanders you control get +2/+2 and have lifelink," and is a Performer in addition to its other types.
Krishna — Equip
I should put [[caduceus]] in
But…but I want a body that I can block stuff
That's also good, yeah
What card good into voltron match up ?
Bond of Agony is just a fairer version of [[hailfire torment]] yeah?
Edicts
instant speed destroy the best thing?
YES PLS
Well, most of the time the best thing. voltron usually just has a singular thing
I might put path of Exile in ngl
Yeah I need some cheaper spell
[[reaper's scythe]] seems interesting
I'm leaving it in to see how it feels
a blocker that keeps growing, and all the sudden your commander is a voltron threat??
extort might be a great mechanic for Y'shtola also [[blind obedience]]
so for multiple instances of extort... do you only have to pay once, or pay for each one you want to trigger?
For each
only creatures, but that could be great against some decks
[[magicite]]
I finally found the card I was looking for. It's a huge meme, but [[murderous spoils]] is a funny tech for equipment voltrons lol
lol
You die, thanks for all your stuff
I caved and got an ophidian eye before they rose even higher lol
I like [[armory automaton]] best for that. But because you don't control them, THEY have to pay to get it back haha
I'm building [[stiltzkin, moogle merchant]] into an arms dealer with it as a win-con...
yoinks mana rocks
[[dan lewis]]?
Legendary Creature — Human
Noncreature, non-Equipment artifacts you control are Equipment in addition to their other types and have "Equipped creature gets +1/+0" and equip
.
Doctor's companion (You can have two commanders if the other is the Doctor.)
"What's your plan? Some clever sciencey-spacey thing I won't understand?"
2/2
Only card with that text unless I'm missing something
[[bludgeon brawl]]
Ahh
in rakdos... [[dying wish]]
Then make everything into an artifact with that one card
if you throw down [[Mycosynth lattice]] yes
lol, crazy shinanigans are fun
I keep wondering if there was a way to make [[dream halls]] work with her
You definitely could with curiosity and ophidian
I'm not a huge fan of world enchantments like this, but sometimes you can make it one sided
it just seems superior to [[as fortold]]... and faster
faster at 5 mana is wild
lol
ironic, but yea, they take effect at the same time... sorta
and discard a card to cast y'shtola... it just makes sense
Depend on what table I’m at haha
If I have [[bloodchief]]
Multiple cards match “bloodchief”, can you be more specific?
[[bloodchief ascension]]
Enchantment
At the beginning of each end step, if an opponent lost 2 or more life this turn, you may put a quest counter on this enchantment. (Damage causes loss of life.)
Whenever a card is put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere, if this enchantment has three or more quest counters on it, you may have that player lose 2 life. If you do, you gain 2 life.
Should I add in [[midncrank]]
No card found for “midncrank”
[[mindcrank]]
Or it is too strong for bracket 3 ?
mindcrank isn't really strong imo
Milling helps them unless you're going to kill them through mill (which you aren't)
Ohh you mean with bloodchief
EWWWW
2 card combos are icky
(all combos are icky)
[[mana web]] seems evil in this deck...
tap command tower - tap all lands, tap forest, tap all green lands... if I read it right
it would need to be countered... I don't see it being easy to remove
lmao
yeah, I kno ok, lol. but mana web is MORE evil... because it KEEPS annoying everyone
XD
There’s a card that makes lands tap for different colors
Creature — Human Werewolf
: Add
.
At the beginning of each upkeep, if no spells were cast last turn, transform this creature.
"My village's fear drove me into the wild . . ."
1/1
Moonscarred Werewolf
Creature — Werewolf
Vigilance
: Add
.
At the beginning of each upkeep, if a player cast two or more spells last turn, transform this creature.
". . . and I will bring the fury of the wild back to my village."
2/2
[[naked singularity]]
Artifact
Cumulative upkeep
(At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)
If tapped for mana, Plains produce
, Islands produce
, Swamps produce
, Mountains produce
, and Forests produce
instead of any other type.
lmao
Can’t run it sadly reading it
this card.... wtf [[battle of wits]]
Yshtola control would be annoying
I hear that's the direction a lot of decks are going
Perfect
I could probably throw together a nasty stax deck when i get home
Should I add a win con or no
no
I know it's unrelated... but I really want to try building [[Flubs, the fool]] with a land creatures win with [[epic struggle]] & [[Life and limb]]...
Enchantment
All Forests and all Saprolings are 1/1 green Saproling creatures and Forest lands in addition to their other types. (They're affected by summoning sickness.)
"It was a sight of pain and awe—a twisted forest, migrating across the salt plain in search of richer soil." —Edahlis, greenseeker
Good I want anyway
[[sylvan awakening]] might be better
With how much I slap together decks, I should melt my own brewing thread at this rate
Flubs is a meme and I love it
Why do I see green in my yshtola chat
All non basic land tap for red
stupid that it costs 4 mana to use tho
they could have removed the 4 and it would have been fine
A proxy I made for Y'Shtola using the Fender Guitars Promo art
THAT'S SO PRETTY
CAN I STEAL??? I want it for my clone of y'shtola

How good is [[bloodchief accession]] in this deck for not infinite purposes ? Or just leave it there as a threat that need answer ?
No card found for “bloodchief accession”
[[bloodchief ascension]]
Enchantment
At the beginning of each end step, if an opponent lost 2 or more life this turn, you may put a quest counter on this enchantment. (Damage causes loss of life.)
Whenever a card is put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere, if this enchantment has three or more quest counters on it, you may have that player lose 2 life. If you do, you gain 2 life.
It's pretty solid all things considered. 1 mana that either eats removal or will probably do an okay amount of dmg
I'm still debating if mine goes in or not, bouncing between it and more interaction
I appreciate that, feel free to use it. Enjoy!
I think it's decent
For bloodchief
But it does feel quite filler-y if you don't have any synergy
[[summary dismissal]] yae or nae?
Not in my meta but it may be a meta call
How large is your stack getting to?
I don't think I've seen many stacks ever reach the point of ever casting that
Not too large, but a friend of minej plays storm
Ah that's a very meta call then as lar said
I don't want to run it just for that reason, but it seems okay on its own tbh
as a stifle and a counter
Worth noting it still can get countered
Yeah
[[disallow]]
Do you want to pay the 1 mana tax for the off chance of storm?
It's not just storm, but there are many on cast triggers
Well I guess it does exile, but it's still fairly fringe
Like cascade and such that would be sniped
That's true
[[hermes overseer]] seems a little high mv, but I want to keep him in for a few games
Legendary Creature — Elder Wizard
Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, create a 1/1 blue Bird creature token with flying and vigilance.
Whenever you attack with one or more Birds, scry 2.
"For us, there may be no higher purpose than to live for our world, but what of the other living beings out there?"
2/4
It does feel pretty pricy at 4cmc
blockers seem nice
He's just more flexible talrand
I'm also running [[baral, chief]] [[mindsplicer apparatus]] etc to reduce costs
I think [[giggling skitterspike]] might be an interesting form of oppression and defense
I hate skitterspike so much lol
I have it in my hashaton deck
My friend has him in his bello deck 😨
Idk, I feel like it does more work in a counters deck
yea, it does, for sure
Yeah, I put one in my bumbleflower deck, but haven't seen it yet
He's just a blocker but you need to spend 9 mana to be a threat
It's much better if you have ways to make him big fast
How's mindsplice for you Levi?
slap a [[reaper's scythe]] on him lol
I know that yshtola is pretty pip heavy
I just put it in, but also I haven't gotten in any yshtola games yet
Be the new standard [[astrologian ]]
Artifact — Equipment
Job select (When this Equipment enters, create a 1/1 colorless Hero creature token, then attach this to it.)
Equipped creature is a Wizard in addition to its other types and has "Whenever you cast a noncreature spell and whenever you draw your third card each turn, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature."
Diana — Equip
Oh is planisphere making waves?
I slapped it into my bumble deck from the precon
Also vivi is in standard ...
Vivi is such a mistake lol
I wonder if it's one of the now common designed for commander mistakes
But on the other hand, she is so pushed
Pushed even for commander lol
Could be a remnant of designed for modern and no time to balance
I wonder if it's because she's an iconic character
Is she that iconic
Probably 4th or 5th, after the FF7 characters
I was more aware of the main characters and villains of the various FF games over her tbh
Oh right, I got a good chunk of my FF singles today but still missing a few for yshtola
[[alphinaud]] and [[papalymo]] are the biggest I'm missing tho
Realistically, alphinaud is prob just too expensive to make the cut but I like him
The leveilleurs seem good, but I hocked them out to my bumbleflower deck instead
And yeah, a little spendy for a noncreature deck
papalymo is just so cool
and fun to say
I'm sad there's not a card for Aledji Adeledji
Tataru taru at least got it
I think she's part of the main group
It's been like a decade since I've played ff14 lol
I also moved her to my bumbleflower deck lol
Yea bumbleflower really likes the FFXIV cast for some reason
Hmm I feel like I need more protection
And I think [[teferi's ageless insight]] is probably unnecessary
I feel like it's overkill
Tho probably better than alphinaud
That's not a high bar
It is a noncreature at least
There are a ton of taxes available for the deck
Authority of the consuls, Kambal
Even bloodchief
I've never once extorted
It's just good protection and good against treasure decks
Extort might be helpful sometimes inj passing over 4 damage for yshtola
[[storage matrix]]
[[tanglewire]]
Artifact
Fading 4 (This artifact enters with four fade counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a fade counter from it. If you can't, sacrifice it.)
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player taps an untapped artifact, creature, or land they control for each fade counter on this artifact.
How to be archenemy
lol
Triggers yshtola
[[dissipation field]]
Those are the only ones that aren't super unfun to play against
I think I'll put in [[painful quandary]]
Swap it out of my hellbent deck for [[oppression]]
[[theoretical duplication]] is really neat. Maybe I'll run it too.
Oppression is pretty oppressive
Reminds me of [[faerie artisans]]
Yeah, faerie artisans is cool as hell
So a card while not needed for the deck, is too flavorful to not include is the new dark confidant
It and [[octomancer]] is the dream combo
Creature — Frog Druid
Gift an Octopus (You may promise an opponent a gift as you cast this spell. If you do, when it enters, they create an 8/8 blue Octopus creature token.)
At the beginning of each end step, create a token that's a copy of target creature token that entered the battlefield this turn.
3/3
Yeah, my vaevictis deck is very much an archenemy deck lol
Which is that?
[[dark confidant]]
It's just the new reprint
Since he's now a FFXIV antagonist
You really don't need that whatsoever but he's flavorful
Oh gotcha
I feel like edh has gotten so powerful, 4cmc and above has to really do alot
At least in b3+
[[temporary lockdown]]
Wait
Nvm it’s bad
Yeah, only good in constructed formats against aggro tbh
Thoughts on [[lotho, corrupt]]
Legendary Creature — Halfling Rogue
Whenever a player casts their second spell each turn, you lose 1 life and create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "
, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
"Whatever is wrong in the Shire, Lotho will be at the bottom of it: you can be sure of that." —Pippin
2/1
Can't decide if he's worth it, my usual pod tends to play around it
He's probably decent? I wouldn't really run him though
Partly because he's like $10
[[$Lotho corrupt]]
The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
$16.16 • 0.02 TIX
The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
$11.29
The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
$4.94 • €4.31 • 0.02 TIX
Tales of Middle-earth Promos
$10.38
The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
$5.94 • €5.20 • 0.02 TIX
Oh hmm
You can also trigger it which is nice
Maybe I'll slap it in my spongebob hatebears deck actually
Ha finally pulled this for yshtola copy token
Nice
[[lunar convocation]]
Dp y'all think y'shtola can be safely bracket 3?
I've been brewing vivi and cant seem to bring it to 3 without it being less enjoyable
What do you mean, as opposed to 4?
Vivi seems quite a bit stronger if you build him at all sensibly so yeah I can see that
Yeah
Yshtola I feel can be 2 to 4 just fine depending on the 99
Vivi is hard to make b3 without really gimping it
Or like going an artifact build or something stupid
This is what I was thinking
The precon is a 2 surely
Trying to downpower her
It is but its also awful LOL
I just had a game where I got to 8 poison counters with infect yshtola
Tempted to buy a surge foils yshtola just to have when it doubles in price
My yshtola deck is like a 3 I think? I'm still figuring out these brackets, fastest shes won was turn 7
But most of the time its a bit later
None of my decks ever win that fast
Really
That was a unique situation at least, there was another burn player at the table
Usually its more like t9+
This is my current deck
Im trying to figure out what bracket it is tbh
I think 3
But if t7 is too fast for that idk
No gc, no infinites, a single tutor (if you can even call it that)
Many many upgrades i could do so I would think its not close to a 4 but idk
Sounds like there's a voltron player in your games
lol
one got me turn 4 two games in a row, lesson learned I do not let him cook anymore
Nope. Everyone just focuses me. It's almost a meme at this point lol
im trying to get my table to focus me more
that turn 7 win
they tutored for a [[cooped up]]
to put on my yshtola who had curiosity
didnt exile her, let me untap
someone else had path to exile, didnt use it
and they immediately lose ofc..
With Y'shtola or just in general
Haven't played yshtola yet
Just in general lol
I have a spreadsheet tracking our games and usually I'm either first or last lmao
Did you make it with the bleed edge too?
I did, it’s ready for print
It looks like you did, I ask though to be sure
that’s sick. You care if I print it then?
Not at all, I make proxies because I enjoy it, and it makes me happy when others get to enjoy them as well
I realize we’re both mutuals in another server I was about to mention
If you feel like any others, I might have more in my deviant art collection
Alright, thank you
[[grand arbiter augustin iv]]
I mean, if you want to be the problem anyways, might as well
If your table is okay with it
Isn’t yshtola herself also a problem already
That always annoys me. When a deck and or cmdr works, no one wants you to play it… 😭
Well if it means them not working
She’s kind of hard to kill though. I leave her vulnerable for the first turn she’s alive only
Yeah I nerfed the deck a ton to make it nicer but it just isnt the same... rebuilding it as it was now
What are you running as protection?
Idk if its the best but probably my favourite has been [[robe of stars]], it's so funny
She does 2 damage & gains 2 when you play 3cost, costs 4 mana, and draws cards well conditionally… her deck will play slower than most others, I don’t see the problem.
If people are building her to be toxic, of course she will be toxic
Just a ton of counterpslells mostly. Spellskite, boots, and cloning her prefents her from going offline from single target
She’s very insidious. She doesn’t seem like the problem until your engines start going and they’ll be too late to stop you
That’s the same for any commander though. If you allow a deck to go unchecked, it will gain momentum.
The fact that she needs 3mv slows her down quite significantly
At least in my opinion
[[queza, augur of agonies]] is similar
In esper, draw spells are insanely cheap
Either way, I love how she’s designed so I’m going to build my deck to work without her, and do pretty much the same thing she does lol
Interesting I havent seen this card ty
Me either actually… nice
@soft peak I really want to make you a proxy for some reason… I’ll call it library of Lang
I found it from a MTGGoldfish podcast a while back
Phasing is a weird form of protection for her though
since you preferably want her to stick through your opponents' turns too
I would suggest [[kaya’s ghostform]]
[[gift of immortality]] was mentioned here too
Lmao
I actually played library of leng for a bit recently, because a friend of mine was playing a lot of their [[Winter, Misanthropic Guide]] deck and I was sick of having to discard everything 😭
It is yeah, makes sense for my pod though. There are some farewells and someone is running worldfire hahaha
Also again it's funny for the cat to vanish at the sign of danger
A lot of her spells are free or cheaper
But yeah true
This is why I’m starting to add creature that tax them for Playing the game
I may have a few of those in my deck too... lol
I don’t feel bad for [[grand arbiter augustin iv]]
Do you run trinisphere?
Mayhap
Have her as a commander for another deck lol
Also Talion, kambal, and I just added [[Ankh of Mishra]]
Havent played with it yet but I expect it will cook with yshtola
It’s a good card, and frankly, I completely forgot about it😅
My autistic friend who’s really good at MTG swears I’m crazy thinking [[library of leng]] Would be great with Hashaton
The fact that it doesn’t force you to put it on top of library is the key
Not too familiar with hashaton but I see the vision
Do you guys run things like greaves/boots? or what protection for yshtola do you prefer
I run boot
Curator ward
I have greaves and I just assume I'll have 1 other creature out if I need to target her with oine of the like, 3 auras
Gift of immortality
Kaya’s ghostform
[[gift of immortality]] [[kayas ghostform]]
I see
Ghostform is just an extra life whenever
Pretty much, if you can give her a hex proof also, it’s the only way to keep her on the board during a farewell aside from phasing or countering
Same with gift
I meant it’s also trigger her pin
Basically phasing
[[smoke bomb]]
I’m playing this shit how
Oh shit ive seen that card but not the ALL creatures part
Thats funny
Can bounce someones aura in a pinch
That’s pretty cool!😎
Same with smoke bomb, nice
I feel like I rather exile one of my thing
Then cast it again right the way
Yeah its a protection spell
Or temp removal
Depend on how many yshtola you have on board you might end the game
Or lets you recast an artifact for another yshtola trigger
Yes my version is all about making 10 trillion car girls
I feel like yshtola encourages you to heavily build the deck around her requirements
Tap basalt monolith for 3 mana
Release to the wind it
Recast for free, getting another yshtola ping
So if she gets hated out your deck might not work so well
Well you can go on the direction of all the job select and go wide
I wish they added more black mage token options
We have like 3 ?
Rod , transpose, circle of power ?
Here is the best black mage
*[[cornered by black mages]]
[[papalymo]]
Real
Super slept on
Every time i play him he gets removed immediately 😭
Faster than yshtola even
Its crazy
I have him in mine
I think the only defense against instant removal is to have a lot of things that need to be removed instantly. That way, you can get what you need out and no one has an answer anymore.👍
🤣
That ones in my jank barren glory yshtola deck
I dint think i need it in my main one though
I have like
4 sorceries maybe
27 instant 4 sorceries I live on my opponents end step lol
I have a lot of enchantments, so I have [[vedalkin orrery]] and a few others like it
[[fae trickster]]
I have her
Do u have the fish
The otter is good too
[[leyline of anticipation]]
[[valley tidecaller]]
No card found for “valley tidecaller”
[[Tidal Barracuda]]
This guys funny
Esper slowly my fav combination
^^same here
Anyone using [[copy land]]
I think we'd need some really high value lands to copy for it to be really good
But being esper devotion for nyx probably isnt great
[[monastary siege]] is also decent protection. Basically gives all your creatures ward 2
Not sure what else we'd copy
sorry, I mean all your permanents
Who knows, ancient tomb, coffers
Even just one of your basics if you needed it
Maybe if you were really enchantment heavy and ran [[serra's sanctum]]
Yeah, it’s in here. It’s basically an even split. Around 12-16 of each card type other than lands
I like this tbh
I didn’t even know it existed, thanks for the suggestion
And thank you for copy land
It might be going in my mono blue yshtola deck lol
Its been doing devious things with shrine to nyx already
One thing I’m worried about is that it allows for interaction before it comes back in again
Interaction with what
Not sure what you mean
Since you cast it again, it’s open to counter spells
Just something to keep in mind. It does look fun.
[[copy enchantment]]
[[mnemonic]]
[[mnemonic betrayal]]
This card sound cute ngl
Rarely will you use the opponents cards as well as your own
Combo with [[bloodchief accession]]
No card found for “bloodchief accession”
Or whatever the card called
I dislike 2 card combos when one part is not good without the other
At least bloodchief ascension is good by itself unlike betrayal
Bloodchief alone in the deck feel like it’s just a bait for a removal
Which now I say it out loud
It’s not that bad
Yeah I run 3 of them
which ones?
[[teferi, time]]
[[leyline of anticipation]]
you're not on teferi + displacer kitten lines are you
[[high fae strickter]]
No card found for “high fae strickter”
[[high fae]]
Multiple cards match “high fae”, can you be more specific?
[[high fae trickster]]
No what is the line ?
it's not good for us since we only run sol ring and probably can't convert it to a win
but t3feri + displacer kitten + mana rocks that generate at least the mana they cost = infinite draw + tons of mana. usually colorless until you find mox opal or similar
oh i guess we also run sol ring + mox amber
Lol it’s nice
And Fae trickster is a nice flying blocker
Bc sometime you just lose to flyer
Thoughts on [[revel in riches]]?
We do kill a lot of creatures and it's a form of treasures
But it's also 5cmc
My currently finished flavor deck for yshtola
About a quarter of the cards are related to FFXIV other than lands
Mox amber would be great but don't own it
I prob wish there were more counter spells to squeeze in tho
If I do add more counters, prob will cut more flavor stuff
Tbf, it's prob one of the weaker cards
Depends on meta for sure
In my yshtola deck and vs some of the decks I play vs thats a nuke
Vs an artifact deck its a bit of a dud though
I run enough token makers it's not exactly synergy
Right
Yeah I looked at that and it felt like a win more card
Mindbreak trap is funny
@pallid ocean since you're going with a lot of tokens have you considered [[Nanogene Conversion]]?
wait this applies to opponents creatures as well lmao
Pakpatiq at worst is a ramp spell tbh
I also have 20+ instants to work off of it though
It only ramps if it dies tho
I'm used to defaulting g exile based removal so thats prob why
That's fair, but ignoring farewell, who is going to swords a pakpatiq lol
I reckon there are effects like dauthi voidwalker
It reminds me that Richard from mtg goldfish just runs [[ojer ax]] as red ramp
Legendary Creature — God
Trample
If a red source you control would deal an amount of noncombat damage less than Ojer Axonil's power to an opponent, that source deals damage equal to Ojer Axonil's power instead.
When Ojer Axonil dies, return it to the battlefield tapped and transformed under its owner's control.
4/4
Temple of Power
Land
(Transforms from Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might.)
: Add
.

,
: Transform this land. Activate only if red sources you controlled dealt 4 or more noncombat damage this turn and only as a sorcery.
Chimil gave the Oltec passion. Ojer Axonil challenged them to harness it.
Pretty sure that's a meme
No, he just has the craziest takes
But ojer axonil is terrifying
That's also true
I love all the LCI gods, but axonil especially
It's funny af how he works with doublers tho
Yep
It's very annoying in a pingers deck, but I still run a lot of the replacement effects
It's so much value with pings
Indeed
Love how it's balanced by game mechanics
Yeah, people have been running him
I have a spare delney sitting around looking for a home
How do yall protect yshtola, she's a removal magnet
A little spendy too
Either alot of protection, or a lot of protection
[[gift of immortality]] is on the way for me
But really always have something to save her before you cast her
counterspells mainly
Kayas ghostform seems good
a few equips
I run a ton of other creatures compared to yshtola
also yeah other threats
Mostly for flavor but also just good to spread the threat
if you have talion out is yshtola the problem or talion
maybe
[[talion, the kindly lord]]
its opponents casting
Well 2 power and toughness too
Technically?
point is have other threats, other engines
Yea I'm running remora
Quite a few of the FFXIV cast
Mostly for flavor but they are all fairly decent
Not bracket 4 level but decent
And I'm playing high power 3 technically
You can also run more commander helm, plate etc
She's just in full armor with a mithril coat
[[defiler of dreams]] seems like it could be interesting...
It's also permanents only which likely will be limited to your turn, where Yshtola wands to be an every-turn type of spell
Yar
There are quite a few flash speed permanents I run though
Not enough to justify a 5 mana creature though
I could see you playing an own turn permanent heavy yshtola variant, there are ways to tax opponents on their turn for the draw
Yeah, you could
thats part of what I love most about this commander
there are so many directions you can go
I'm keeping gear hulk in btw
Torrential? Same.
I understand why it could be removed but I want at least 1 kinda beefy blocker, at instant speed, which also let's me recur another instant for free. Just cast something that double burns for a free trigger
thats an interesting card
hmmmm
flash it in, recast unwind/rewind/frantic search to get 3 more open mana back
spicy potentially
I've been very happy with it in my bumbleflower deck
discarding a high mv instant, then recurring it at instant speed is pretty spicy
That's a perceived line I have, yes. But also even just getting a 2 for 1 with a blocker + removal spell can be worth it
Nobody expects [[inkshield]] when it's already in your GY
Or [[perch protection]]
Perch Protection <:mana4:292901508712890379><:manaw:1007102126813610074><:manaw:1007102126813610074>

Gift an extra turn (You may promise an opponent a gift as you cast this spell. If you do, they take an extra turn after this one.)
Create four 2/2 blue Bird creature tokens with flying. If the gift was promised, all permanents you control phase out, and until your next turn, your life total can't change and you gain protection from everything.
Exile Perch Protection.
Mmmm inkshield
I want Inksheild in here but I haven't found a slot for it yet
I want to play a few games with current build and see what feels weak/upgradable from my paper
There's also [[Counterpoint]]
Counterpoint is bordering on "5 mana counterspell to trigger a draw since I re-cast an instant" for me, but I see it's merits and it's still in the maybeboard
I've got 6... 2 boardwipes, copy spell, exsanguinate as a finisher, treasure cruise (1 mana draw 3?) And temporal mastery because 2 mana extra turn + trigger
thoughts on exsanguinate vs [[death to the debtless]]?
I ditched treasure cruise after goldfishing a bit
I feel like debt is better for yshtola
Debt can be better as it has a higher ceiling. The tipping point is what, 8 mana?
its lower when you factor in yshtola will trigger off of it
She will trigger of exsanguinate too
will she?
No?
isnt its cmc only 2
regardless what x is
yeah if that's how it works I did the math earlier
and debt does more damage for every value of X
She will, the mv on the stack becomes what you pay for it, so says rulings
I thought there was something like, when you cast an X spell the mana value on the stack is calculated what's is paid
ohhh ok
hmmm
sang looks more versitile in that case
wow I ruled out a lot of X cost spells because I thought cmc wouldnt include it
There are indeed 79 instant/flash spells with
Granted most are counterspells or similar vut [[march of swirling mist]] might be a missed one
Instant
As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may exile any number of blue cards from your hand. This spell costs
less to cast for each card exiled this way.
Up to X target creatures phase out. (While they're phased out, they're treated as though they don't exist. Each one phases in before its controller untaps during their next untap step.)

Hahaha
Good protection for ysh, but also good way to fog a few creatures
Yeah I need to include that in my maybeboard, I feel protection will be a premium when I get to my friends
I'm just wary of phasing in general
You kinda want ysh back before your turn comes back around
I guess you do lose her for a potential few turns yeah
At least you don't have yo waste mana protecting her for a few more turns tho either 🙃
are you running cards that give your spells flash
Just Lyse Hext, Floodcaller for me
[[release to the wind]]
I also swapped around [[dawn truce]] for [[cosmic intervention]] since I can get a trigger, and hopefully foretell it. But that's a mana usage call
Instant
If a permanent you control would be put into a graveyard from the battlefield this turn, exile it instead. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
Foretell
(During your turn, you may pay
and exile this card from your hand face down. Cast it on a later turn for its foretell cost.)
theres like a line to use cosmic intervention for ramp too right
using fetch lands
yeah play cosmic, crack fetch, it comes back at your end step. crack it again, it comes back at your opponents next end step, and you crack it a third time
[[smile at death]] as repeatable yshtola recursion seems like dumb funny tech
Too expensive though
Lyse doesn't give flash
I don't know why I said that because I know she doesn't lol
Kinda funny
I don't see myself gushing in here but it is funny
Speaking of free cards, all the spells like [[misdirect]] and such... do islands count as blue cards?
I dont think so
Caring about color of cards has never been a realm I messed with, and I know lands are a weird one
there's [[foil]] though
bit pricey but its free*
Didn't think so either
I also run [[Flare of Denial]]
its not the best but its fun as far as free counterspells go
usually a tough decision on whether I really want to sac something (I don't run a lot of creatures)
lands are colorless
Unless you're arbor dryad
Well I'm not arbor dryad
are you a [[painter's servant]] though
I don't remember making a scary gargoyle
Okay this seems funny
Nanogene seems hilarious lmao
[[pippin, guard]] thoughts?
Legendary Creature — Halfling Soldier
Vigilance, ward
: Another target creature you control gains protection from the card type of your choice until end of turn. (It can't be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, enchanted, or equipped by anything of that type.)
"Here do I swear fealty to Gondor, until my lord release me, or death take me."
2/2
A creature
[[Mother of runes]] with extra steps sorta right? I suppose someone could have a white and black removal spell or such in one turn
Oh yeah, I guess mother of runes is just better
I don't have a mother of runes though
When did that become a $5 card
[[amphibian downpour]]
This card sound funny
Yeah I'm running it
I want to handicap their commander
All with their pros and cons
But I want to draw a frog token
True
Yes
Did I understand storm correct ?
Reject society, become frog
I love how this deck no longer look like the precon
Like 85% of the deck is replaced
I removed 36 cards
I think I replace almost everything except for Ramp, good instant, lands
Yeah the artifact package, a few new creatures, a few instants and lands are all that lvied
24 non-lands survived
Precon yshtola is bracket 1
Precon yshtola is bracket 1
They did such a bad job I cancelled my preorder and made my own deck
Nah it’s at least 2
Even though it’s having identity crisis, but it can do a lot of cool thing thou
The precon is alright
I got a couple games in tonight, and boy did it feel pretty stronk
Except the first game where I didn't draw blue mana lmao.
I won’t play the game if I don’t draw blue opening hand ngl
I didn't want to hold up my turn by mulliganing lol
Card exploded in price cause birds
It's been that price for a year iirc, I bought mine at that price many months ago
I heard the main issue is the mixed focus, the graha tokens don't play the nicest with ysh
But it has enough gas and flavor for me imo
Still trying to get the precon rn for MSRP
[[Stern Lesson]]
I don't have enough artifacts to make regular use of it I think unfortunately, I have 13 but they're all sorc speed most of the time
I have 14 and I'm going to run it
that mana can be used to pay for abilities and other costs too
It's 3 mana do very little
or if you need a permanent to sac
What requires a sac?
3 mana draw 2 and burn is like exactly what ytstola wants
bargain for one
[[beseech the mirror]]
Sorcery
Bargain (You may sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token as you cast this spell.)
Search your library for a card, exile it face down, then shuffle. If this spell was bargained, you may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost if that spell's mana value is 4 or less. Put the exiled card into your hand if it wasn't cast this way.
Oh i don't run it
every time I do this im discarding a land
because I have 3 others in my hand already
for example
I usually like to plan my decks out without my commander
I don't really call it a draw spell since it's card neutral
But it's my subjective opinion
its not card advantage but it is draw
depending on perspective you could consider it card advantage tho since youre getting a pseudo mana rock...
and depending on the rest of your deck you might like the ability to discard something
if youre running something like [[Torrential Gearhulk]]
(which the powerstone could help pay for btw)
It could but still not a lot of targets
I generally try for above 20
So this is expensive but I feel like more decks should run it
[[glasswing grace]]
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 and has flying and lifelink.
Serra may be long gone, but Benalia's faithful still draw strength from her blessings.
Age-Graced Chapel
Land
This land enters tapped.
: Add
or
.
"Empires fall, cities crumble, righteousness remains." —Chapel inscription
Well 5cmc expensive
gift of orzhova for 3cmc and same shit ? tho this is also a land
It's just a MDFC
Tap land with a very good upside
It's expensive at 5cmc but it does have enchantment synergy as well as MDFC upside
The competition is the 3cmc azorius lifelink enchantment tho
What are some lazy upgrades to the precon if I don't want to put the effort into doing a full fresh brew and buying like 70 new cards but just want to get it to decent bracket 3 level?
Curiosity
I'm exhausted from my last brew
Unwind rewind
Yeah curiosity is a given, fortunately I have it at home
frantic search asw
. If you do, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain that much life.)
. X can't be 0. (You may pay an additional
rather than pay the mana cost for a spell you cast with mana value X or less, where X is the number of time counters on this enchantment.
,
: Monstrosity 5. (If this creature isn't monstrous, put five +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes monstrous.)
" and loses all other card types and abilities.
