Been having trouble building a Thantis deck that keeps up with my pod. Had to rebuild it 3 times, looking for a more group slug type strategy.

  • Make tons of creatures for opponents that are forced to swing at each other, until I can whittle everyone's life down.
  • I have a couple forms of protection, but I'm hoping I can use my commander and my words to keep them from attacking me.

I'm generally trying to keep the cards around $15 dollars or so. Some exceptions can be made. Any help would be appreciated.

Honestly, the issue I ran into is that sometimes the deckis just dead in the water sometimes. I run out of gas and I just sit there for a couple turns.

#

i added a couple more draw engines, but not sure if that's enough to make this deck feel as consistent and steaming along

#

I feel like I really shouldn't run into these problems in jund colors...

#

I can't add creature based draw like dark confidant or etc bc my commander forces all units to attack. If they are meant to sit in the backline, I need creatures with tap abilities or ways to avoid getting blocked

i'm not super familiar with Thantis as a commander, but it looks like your current gameplan is to force your opponents to attack you, ensure your blocking creatures can kill with effects like Maha and Massacre Girl, and then maybe swing in with Thantis afterwards?

#

just wanna make sure i'm able to help in the right way

small flax
#

no, im actually not really looking for them to attack me. Most opponents are incentivized not to attack me.

#

ye, i know i do have trove and maha there

#

maha was one i was considering cutting

faint jolt
#

hmm ok.
Thantis is gonna be a huge removal target, so i'd dedicate a few more slots to protecting her. maybe add in some cards like [[Professor's Warning]], [[Tibalt's Trickery]], [[Deflecting Swat]] (or [[Bolt Bend]] more a budget friendly version)

this is also one of the few decks i'd recommend [[Avatar of Slaughter]] to, so maybe consider that

just for redundancy's sake, you'll want a few more cards that force every creature to attack just in case Thantis gets hated out too much

small flax
#

yup. i think i have put all these cards in my deck at one point

#

but decided to take them out

#

hmm, ive got a couple games of thantis in

#

in the games i played, hes usually a non-threat for a good portion of the game

#

i think i do have bolt bend/tibalts in the deck alr?

faint jolt
#

whoops you're right mb

small flax
#

do you think avatar is a good card ?

#

i felt like 8 mana for a sort of redunant card

#

was not good enough

faint jolt
#

i think it can be good if you can really discourage attacks towards you. it's not amazing on its own though

#

but i also think it's funny so i'm biased

small flax
#

hmmm maybe. im j scared of an 8 mana sink that might not get enough value for me

#

esp if im dropping it around late game

#

where a player or two might have gotten knocked out alr

faint jolt
#

fair point

small flax
#

honestly i think swapping out trove of temptation for a tutor might be a better play?

#

not sure

faint jolt
#

i'd say so. if you're trying to force your opponents against each other, i'd stay away from anything that requires them to attack you

small flax
#

mm sometimes the value could be quite good

#

i have a fat ass spider that grows bigger every time they have to attack me

#

so at least +3/+3 each turn

faint jolt
#

that's true

#

not a bad strat either

#

i'd also maybe add [[Archetype of Finality]] for further discouragement

faint jolt

and if we're just talking bout big intrusive creatures we can't forget about [[Vigor]]

What should I swap out w vigor? I had him in my first iteration, but he felt kinda dead

Are there any more good draw cards that i can add?
