not even cedh decks that run every single fast mana card available run that few lands
I'm hoping that with copies of Axebane and Overgrown battlement I can overcome it
the problem of low lands is even getting to the point of playing axe bane and overgrown
you will just get land screwed on turns 1-3 way too often
here's what the hypergeo calc says
by turn 3, you only have a 37% chance of finding your third land
it's tempting to want to cut lands because they are inherently uninteresting, but on the other side you can't cast your interesting spells without mana
Well also I'm only playing casually and we don't restrict mulligans, I can refresh my hand till I get decent mana start. But I will try to cut a few
idk, isn't mulliganing all day kinda bad too
keep in mind this is only until turn 3
you ideally want to hit your lands every single turn for the entire game
the chances keep going down and down as you get to land drops 4+
your commander costs 4
if he dies once he's 6
and if anything, it makes cards like [[burgeoning]] extremely questionable in your deck
Yeah that's one I cut, I wasn't planning on such low lands when I entered that one
what is [[jwari shapeshifter]] supposed to do in this deck
there are 0 other ally cards
that is not realizing it means ally type
i think you want to go up to 35ish lands minimum
going beyond that, there are a lot of redundant effects that aren't very good and you're probably fine to just play 1-2 copies of the best versions of them
especially when you already run tutors
so my main concern is not knowing many of the potential cards I could be playing
scryfall and edhrec can help a lot here
looking up edhrec will give you a lot of suggestions for what other people play in arcades decks
https://edhrec.com/commanders/arcades-the-strategist
Scryfall is a really powerful tool for finding cards with specific themes
Arcades is tagged with the community tag "buttstrike" so if you search for that you'll find other cards that work with that kind of effect
you can find existing tags on creatures by opening their scryfall page and then clicking the tagger
oh ok i hadnt seen that, ive been skimming the surface of edhrec but i dont often use scryfall
you then take that tag and narrow it down in the main scryfall search
in the search above, i used
otag:buttstrike commander:wug legal:commander
and you can filter further by type, cost (in mana and/or dollars)
etc
edhrec is good for inspiration, scryfall is for digging deeper and finding your own hidden gems
the easiest way is to start with a card that has an effect you want to replicate and then look up its tags
and go from there
this video has a good summary on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlaTEiVPm0o
