We all know the meme, Ashling and 99 lands and no win-con. My deck wins. I opted to avoid small targeted damage like bolt and such. Instead I have added more damage multipliers, and more mana creation. Also protection for Ashling so I’m not constantly paying the tax.

This deck also made me realize how much I dislike Hugs Decks. 3 weeks in a row I roll up to the LGS to test this deck out, only to have a player switch decks after seeing Ashling. We all want to see the thing happen, and Ashling is pretty phenomenal at the thing. As much I enjoy dealing 34 damage on turn 3, I’d really like to see how turn 6+ looks.

As someone who played a mono-R control & Voltron-lite Ashling deck as my only or main EDH deck for several years before dismantling it, and am currently tinkering with the final version of a rebuild these is the summary of my thoughts on this deck:

It's pretty unfocused, and doesn't seems particularly tuned around the importance of Ashling as the commander. It mostly just feels like a generic red global burn / group slug deck.

If you want to mine any ideas, this is the list I'm close to putting together currently:

Also, as an aside, if people change decks after seeing what decks/commanders other people put down... I would ask them not to do that, or at least give you a good reason why they want to, or should be allowed to do so by the rest of the table.

At best they are realizing they chose a deck that is playing too far below or above the table and are trying to course correct. At neutral, they're realizing they picked a deck that simply will not function and be torn apart without contributing to the game because of some sort of rock paper scissors mismatch with the table. At worst they are purposely trying to angle shoot their way to easy winds by picking decks specifically to counter the table if not actively playing over the table once they see what's being played.

I wanted it to be a group slug. I purposely didn’t include targeted removal like bolt because I want any damage to be dealt to everyone. Including me if I don’t have Ashling protected properly.

We are all going down with the boat

Oh I guess I should add that I don’t proxy cards, just personal preference, or the deck would look different than it does now lol

What should the focus be? I felt like all the damage doublers were my focus
