#Metallic and roughness having no effect in Substance?

I'm trying to add some metallics to the texture of an awtter I'm working on. The shader has metallic and roughness channels added, and switching them on and off seems to work fine for the bits on the collar. But when I try to do it for the body and other accessories nothing seems to happen. I imagine this is related to the mask layer attached to each fill layer, but I don't know what I need to change to make it work.

To make Metallic & Smoothness maps using Substance Painter, there's a specific way to do it. As the Awtter uses Poiyomi Shaders, there is an export template provided in the documentation that you can use in order to make proper Metallic & Smoothness Maps.

See this page for more info: https://www.poiyomi.com/general/substance-export

Adobe Substance Painter is frequently used for authoring PBR (Physically Based Rendering) texture maps, and works well for creating realistic looking textures. Provided on this page are some export presets for Substance Painter that can be used to easily export textures for use in a Poiyomi Material.

It requires the usage of the following Channels: Metallic, Glossiness, User0, and User1 respectively.

I am not at the exporting stage yet

#

toggling on and off the metallic and roughness channels in the substance painter file for the awtter isn't affecting anything other than the pendant and buckles

#

Is there a mask I need to be editing that I'm missing?

This is because those are probably not mapped yet. You must use the Channels I listed above in order to do it properly.

#

What you see in Substance Painter will NOT be what will be shown in Unity.

The metallic properties aren't appearing on the model in substance

#

I've made a metallic awtter previously, I know what I need to prepare and export for it

You might not be previewing it as "Material"

Then check the layers. It's possible the Channels are enabled but the Grayscale on them are NOT set to White.

#

Only then if you make the Buckles or Pendant have the Metallic Slider set all the way to White, then it will appear.

shut sinew
#

No no, you misunderstand

#

the metallic properties do appear on the collar pendant and buckles

#

But they aren't appearing anywhere else

It's got to do with Masking. If you want Metallics on anything else, you must make them show using the Mask on said layers.

shut sinew
#

How do I do that?

#

There is already a mask on the hair

hollow basin
#

Just simply enable the Channels for each Layer you want. Then it will show.

shut sinew
#

But...I did

#

that's the whole issue

hollow basin
#

Other layers other than the Pendant and Buckle?

shut sinew
#

when I enable the channels the metallicness doesn't show

#

It shows ONLY on the pendant and buckle

hollow basin
#

If that's the case, then there's another layer ABOVE IT that's overwriting it. You must check on them.

shut sinew
#

I want it on other parts too

hollow basin
#

Anything above a layer will always overwrite what's below it.

shut sinew
#

oh

#

hm

#

it appears to be the "mate maker" layer

hollow basin
#

Ah yeah, I should've mentioned that first.

#

I intentionally deleted that layer so that my Metallic Masks would show.

shut sinew
#

Ah

#

What does that layer do, anyway?

hollow basin
#

Shade did that to fix the Roughness, I guess. But that doesn't really have an effect on the Metallic Map when using the Poiyomi Export preset I use.
