FYI you can just open the thing up in paint and use the square selection to cut out the part you need

i second this, it took many tries for me to get the croping right so that my pfp fit correctly, which is kind of annoying

it doesn't display the whole image if the ratio is different, so i had to try several times cropping it so that it would adjust correctly

and yeah i guess gimp isn't the most easiest image editor, and the super basic builtin mspaint doesn't have this, but here's free-to-download paint.net and the builtin Windows Photos app doing it
