I tested your concerns about the Stock cam crashws when taking portrait photo of a person and crashes. Upon my testing it didn't crash in my end and I was able to also edit it in Google Photos it also didn't crash in my end. Side note OIS is also working now in stock cam which is a good plus in my book.

I usually update using the OTA.
And you do lose Magisk root if you update it like that.

Here's how to make sure root stays:

1. Download & install the OTA
2. Before rebooting, open up the Magisk app
3. Tap Install > Install to Inactive Slot (After OTA) > Go
4. Wait until Magisk installs itself
5. Reboot

After that, you have updated the ROM and retained Magisk.
