I get the idea of an ore scanner. Here's my problem with it. It's just silly

  1. Either make it a proper precision device, with an indication, or the ability to keep track of ranges and sectors scanned, or make it omnidirectional. Or even combine the two: Give an omnidirectional ping, which returns "anomalies", which then can be investigated with a directional scanner.
  2. make it a mobile scanner, that can move ahead with the progressing excavation
  3. rework the power requirements - they are ridiculous
  4. enable drones to analize rock samples (which they already do)

I am curious if you could elaborate more on point 3.

I think the continual power drain by the scanner is a bit nonsensical when you can turn it off when not in use with no downside. Are you in agreement with that or are you thinking of something else?
