You don't open a .bin file. It's binary data... that's something to be read by a computer, not a human. Most of the time .bin would be, in this context, a firmware update or something along those lines.

More likely they meant uploading your sound fonts perhaps?

im really not sure. i backed up what was on the sd before formatting it, but they said to use the files they sent with the email, which was just... .bin files
