#THE ACOLYTE

'Accident'
I'm pretty sure he murdered some fools with it because he was mad.
I meant accident in the whole "zero prior training".
"Oh shit I didn't know I could shoot lightning from my fingers sksksksksksk turned out great tho thank you Force"
Holy shit liking the episode is actually the most popular on the poll
I'm in category 3
so with all the "girl boss" comments, how much we wanna bet that there would be no complaints what so ever if jecki was a guy instead. literally nothing else changs except making jecki a guy XD
Yeah.
Thats my take on it. Those comments only seem to get trotted out when there's a woman doing something cool.
It's like when Caitlin Clark was all over the news for being a phenomenal basketball player, and every comment section was loaded with average dudes saying they could beat her in a 1 on 1 game.
Some men just cannot handle that a woman might be good at something.
The skill requirements for women to be viewed as "good" at something by men requires an impossible standard
Heavens forbid women be human beings who can be talented.
the way i see it the people claiming shes a girl boss and was winning against qimir have no real argument cus in reality she was getting her ass kicked until she was fighting with sol and even then was turned into swiss cheese. meanwhile obiwan (also a padawan at the time) did it better and survived and these people have no issue with it
if you only issue is the gender roles of a character. you have no argument
Someone made a comparison of Jecki to TPM Obi-wan saying that they kinda are in a similar spot in the order, but their outcomes are the opposites, which I kinda like?
Easily the worst thing about trying to have conversations with people saying the show it shut because of things like vernestras light whip, cortosis armor shorting out sabers or vernestra getting uncomfortable with hyper space, is the fact that when you explain the origins or those points, the majority of their argument is “it was stupid then and it’s still stupid now”
Like fucking Christ there is no point in even talking to you because literally nothing will change your mind
Star Wars theory up here saying how “vernestra gets tummy aches from hyper space” uhh, no. She finds it uncomfortable because hyper space is a separate dimension away from the force. She feels it like your computer getting interference in the Wi-Fi, and for a being so attuned to the force like a Jedi of course that shit would be unsettling. But no he’s convinced “she gets belly aches, humanizing Jedi is bad”
Is it any wonder why people are so fucking tired of this shit
Hey I like using “Star Wars is stupid” as a way to enjoy it, weird to see it used as a reverse argument
is that a thing with her in the THR books? (that I haven't read yet)
cuz like.... okay. who gives a shit.
but also
The Fandom Menace: "omg why don't they just use Legends stuff, it's like RIGHT THERE!"
They use stuff from Legends
The Fandom Menace: "No no no no not THAT stuff only the, uhhh, the COOL stuff!"
They use cool stuff from Legends
The Fandom Menace: "omg no you're doing it wrong! use the OTHER cool stuff!"
Star Wars fans are never satisfied.
Yes I do believe it’s from the books or comics. I remember even avar kriss bringing it up at one point in light of the Jedi.
I believe it has to do with her getting visions when traveling through hyperspace.
If we take nothing else from the acolyte I hope that we take more Jedi with more blade Color’s. There is no reason why blue and green lightsabers are the only thing the order has anymore. Make it so yellow and purple get more in the greater order
I wonder what changed in-universe between the High Republic and the PT Republic.
I know that we all may or may not have mixed feelings about George Lucas.
But I remember him saying something about how no Jedi from the PT Republic Era could have a Yellow lightsaber (this was in reference to Filoni wanting to give Ahsoka a Yellow Shoto).
It seemed like the only time you got a yellow saber was if you were a temple guard or a super obscure character from a book not many people know about
The Temple Guard lightsabers being Yellow makes sense since that's part of their uniform.
But I seriously wonder what kind of giant paradigm shift there was for Yellow to disappear.
Or pre Disney, a character only the die hard fans really knew or cared about. Such as yaddle with her orange saber, or plo koon with any of his 3 other Color’s XD
Obviously irl the reason is George Lucas only wanted red and blue to start with, and green was added for the Tatooine blue sky scene.
I do know that the Jedi became more dogmatic and strict in their teachings. During the high republic Jedi even seen the force differently, like as fire, wind, water, music, or “a force” thanks orla
I’m fairly sure it was orla jareni who seen the force as a force.
just let me have my turquoise and I'm happy
Yes exactly
I still have no clue what colour would fit me in terms of the lore.
We haven't seen pink in canon at all outside of Fallen Order.
(That bitch was NOT Magenta it was PINK)
I have a character whose lightsaber is the exact Color of your profile pic. The Color is beautiful on a lightsaber especially when paired with orange
its my fave. its pretty much the only color I use
Go take a “what’s my lightsaber Color test XD
That’s how I got my yellow
I think the way I think of why there aren't as many lightsaber colors by PT is the Jedi have lost a sense of perspective, perhaps their dogma has blinded them to more diverse interpretations on the Force
Just did this. Orange.
I can see you with orange
I asked my friends what color id be with my Jedi and most said green, so my Rebel Legion Jedi is gonna have green
Did another one. RED??
You were my brother (I think?) nonemi!
Analyzing Evil: Star Wars fans Disney Lucasfilm
Analyzing Evil: Mike Zeroh
Orange, Red, Yellow, Green, White.
"He's every lightsaber colour imaginable! Quizzes hate him!"
Your officially plo koon XD
I'm surprised Rian Johnson isn't on this
Analyzing Evil: Analyzing Evil Disney Lucasfilm
Plot twist. He thinks last Jedi was the best Star Wars film to date
Analyzing Evil: George Lucas from Disney Lucasfilm
Bruh that would be hilarious
I was about to say Plot Twist: the guy who made them is Sheev Talks, but he didn't like Last Jedi
Yeh lol
Disclaimer: Sheev Talks is cool imo
Here's my daily contribution to woke culture I guess: "My pronouns in bio"
You were my sibling
get a load of this woke guy 😛
why am I being pinged to a show I'm not watching till all are out yet?
Who pinged you? I don't think it was me. If it was, then my bad, I didn't know.
Yea I saw haha
Oh my bad i didn't realize you were waiting to binge
I just noticed you and katarn played destiny as well
It probably isn't him
just some grifter YTer
It isn't, I checked
(and I'm betting no one will place that gif)
she's improving, though likely gonna be in the hospital for a bit. Not sure how long.
let's go to #general-but-weird so Raven doesn't get spoiled
ok that's good to hear
Doesn't C-3PO (A FREAKING DROID) hate hyperspace/sapce travel?
What's the problem if she gets tummy aches?
well, she doesn't (and says so in the episode), which makes the grift all the dumber
But kelborn, remember. It’s dumb to humanize Jedi. They’re supposed to be larger than life
They’re not allowed to be people
I think this is the ideal jedi if you ask @weary sable
THAT'S CRAZY
Well it depends on the era.
Clone Wars era? In most cases, yeah. Dogmatic fuckers can die off idgaf.
New Republic era? Please live y'all have actually found a decent answer.
In one for the je’daii personally
So I noticed something. After Qimir kills Yord, he doesn't have his gauntlet. That's because Yord knocks it off with his strike
Middle of the screenshot is the gauntlet
Yeah I noticed that too. I was more confused when it was knocked off
Yeah she has intense visions usually lol
asked someone to explain how the show is woke, they told me to go look up articles of it. so i responded back saying "no im asking you how its woke. you made the claim now explain yourself" and they reply back with articles calling it woke. guy just doesnt know how the show it woke
Dumb fans
XD to make it worse he’s now saying that I’m on the wrong side of history just cus I want him to explain his view point
Oh. That's a phrase.
Do they not make people write essays anymore?
yeah but they just prompt chatGPT for it
Rational thought no longer exists in this world. Or at the very least, this fandom.
Here’s what he said
“You just want to make me say it so you can call me silly names for not agreeing with the weaponized agenda that’s being forced on us and our children. I could not care less what you think, the fact that you have taken this stance (wanting you to explain your POV?) proves that you are on the wrong side of history and you and Useless to your fellow man”
Old coot can't be fucking bothered to do his own research.
Nor formulate an opinion of his own basis rather than following a crowd he likes.
Useless to your fellow man XD my guy get your head out of your ass were arguing about star wars
The fuck is he talking about?
I wanna know this same thing tbh. I'm sure Fayroth wants to know the same thing.
Is he high or something?
Idk what “weaponized agenda” the acolyte is pushing but I think dudes looking a little too far into it
Sexy men for Nonemi to droll maybe?
HEY
But that's ok
Is he wrong?
😉
Apparently "black women can be lesbians and lesbians can have some semblance of power" is a weaponization of media and a threat.
"The main character is a black woman" AND OSHA IS LOWKEY DOGSHIT AT HER JOB FUCK IS YOU TALKING ABOUT
THIS AIN'T ANOTHER REY SITUATION IF ANYTHING IT'S THE COMPLETE FUCKING OPPOSITE
🗣️ 🗣️ 🗣️
Hate to see a woman winning hate to see a woman losing honestly do these people just hate women or something (the answer is yes)?
If he said: "I don't like the story or settings or characters" it would have been fine but all this woke crap thing is so dumb
They don't even know what is woke or not
I’m fully convinced that the only reason it’s “woke” is because they see people who arnt straight/white/men but when they’re called on it they don’t want to say that because obviously that’s biased/racist/sexist
Thats exactly it. Look at his response. He didn't want to say what specifically was wrong, because you might call him names. That's saying "I don't like that there's no straight white men in this, but if I say that, you'll call me racist and sexist."
It's doesn't matter that those things are true, all they care about is that being outed as those things has negative consequences for them, not that being those things is inherently wrong.
I once had someone call me a groomer for saying that it was ok to have a character who just so happened to be gay in a show. Not even a kids show.
I'll bet that person supports a side of politics that doesn't see a problem with child marriage.
I even explained to them “it’s not like they’re saying look at this this is how we want you to be for our own enjoyment, it’s ‘these people exist, that’s ok, moving on” and referenced an episode of dragon tales that had a dragon in a wheel chair
🤨
They still insisted that I was a groomer XD
Just convinced me that they have no idea what grooming is
Oh, they absolutely know. They just want to equate the entire LGBTQIA+ with it, but turn around and handwave it away when it's priests, or senators, or other types they support.
Or the politicians that are in a certain list
The JE list
Agreed.
The point is, these people are exclusively arguing in bad faith. They absolutely know they're being racist, sexist, homophobic, whatever. They want to be those things. The also know that society at large has moved past that way of thinking, so they make insane, convoluted arguments, the only purpose of which is to try and make anyone different from themselves hide away, so they don't have to see them.
They see certain sections of leadership around the world, and know they are so close to being able to be truly awful, and not being shamed for it.
I think the worst part about it is that people don’t even want to have a conversation, they want to say what they think is right and want to attack you personally if you even think about disagreeing with them
They're responding as if they have a tenable position, but they don't. If they don't like the show specifically for bigoted reasons, and you call them on it, that is, from their point of view, attacking them personally for disagreeing. It doesn't matter to them that the disagreement hinges on them taking an objectively morally indefensible position.
Osha is like the opposite of a Mary Sue and it's funny when someone says she is (I hear it rarely though)
I wish people could just agree that the show is mediocre/mid or below average, OR just be inclusive if you like the show
It's crazy how the fandom used to be so anti prequel and now the prequel kids basically have won the fandom, like did they not learn to be more inclusive?
I wish for that too. Believe me, my issue isn't with anyone who doesn't like the show. My issue is with those who dislike the show specifically for bigoted reasons. They're usually easy to spot when talking to them, since they'll bring up "woke" or "weaponized agenda" or some such nonsense.
Like, if you don't like the writing, or the pacing, or the acting, that's a conversation we can have.
My issue is that but also that we are not inclusive to people who like the show or are able to find things to like about it
I didn't really think it was that lowkey
Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm one of the ones that generally likes all of Star Wars, and it sucks being attacked for liking something that the Fandom has decided is terrible.
We as in what seems to be the broader fandom
This discord seems more accepting, though I'm not in any other discord and I don't use reddit
This Discord is super accepting. It's why I've been so active here. I can actually discuss Star Wars, and not be shouted down into oblivion because I liked TLJ or BoBF.
Or whatever is the current trendy Star Wars thing to hate on, haha.
legit i came here to find a saber smith because i actually had the means to commission a custom saber. im staying because i love actually being able to talk about the acolyte with out being called a woke lgbtletters special snowflake person
actual thing i have been called
You can build one yourself
i appreciate the faith but no I can not XD
Cool one
I liked BoBF before it turned into Mando
You get used to it after a while.
have you guys just tried not being bwoke LGBTletters special snowflake people?
see im the kind of case where i set directly between the two political allignments so im special enough to get hate from both ends XD
Shut up about woke and post lightsabers
True
Cannot wait to see what lightsaber action we have that they’re holding for the next few episodes.
I’m thinking the next one will be the flashback showing what Sol has supposedly done and further fleshing out the backstory and our chance to see Kelnacca in battle.
I’m liking the Acolyte so far but the way they drag out the mystery of the past this many episodes makes me feel like they are dragging it out too much. I feel like once it’s said it’s gonna feel a bit disappointing they didn’t reveal it sooner
Yeah, surprised they didn’t parallel it with the young Osha Mae episode, maybe there’s a reason and it’s the biggest moment in the series?!?!
The pacing sucks honestly
The 8 eps of 30 mins are killing any sense of momentum or room for the story to breathe
You shut up! Bury already had one death scare we don’t need another
It’s like 4 hours total run time, basically a long movie. Idk why they felt the need to make episodes so short yet only have 8 of them
Low commitment to the series in case they decide to not renew and add another season?
Meanwhile K-dramas are 1:20 per episode and there's 16 of them
We need 1 hour episodes
Ah. It's also to avoid having to pay more to workers. of course
if you are complaining about writing and espisode length. just imagine what kind of bloat we'd get for longer episodes
still. i'm personally not seeing the pacing issue or the problem with shorter episodes.
to each their own. 😄
still better than the ~20 mins we'd get for shows in my youth
I think the most consistent reaction I've seen towards the Acolyte is that Manny Jacinto gets praised for fitting so well into his role.
Like maybe I'm just in the wrong spots but I genuinely haven't seen anyone say a bad word about him.
Y'all know I for sure wouldn't.
the power of Manny
i think its par for the course for disney. cast roles wonderfully. underexecute with writing/directing because they aren't sure who they are actually aiming the stories at
I like bloat, it’s why I always eat too much, shows are just a different kind of consumption
I need references for Mog's lightsaber
I NEED A BETTER RESOLUTION!!!!!
I think this show is a symptom of all these writers strikes ngl
@little aurora some references for Qimir's saber
I haven't seen that first image before!
And even seeing it, I still can't figure out where the point of disconnection is.
thanks a lot ! will help me if I ever decide to craft his costume for the 501
You probably aren't wrong.
cool that he has a covertec knob on it
I think that's the point where the split happens
That's what I'm saying, I think Sol will be a fall guy, but I think the show is also setting up a showdown between Vern and Qimir. His lightsaber seems very well equipped to deal with her's
Yeah
Ayyyy another potential Qimir in 50st
yeah, was already hopping in for a Kylo since we have nearly none here, but the design just got me even if its really minimalistic. Cortosis being there also helps to convince me
I also wanted to do a Kylo (TFA, specifically) but mannnn those pleats convinced me not to hah
Manny Jacinto put the mewing art on his Instagram
yeah the fabric and sewing techniques for kylo are insane, I had in mind just to commission a 501 friend of mine
I wish you luck if you go down that path
I eventually want to try for Darth Malak and I know that'll be a struggle with his pleats
Also he tagged every artist he showcased on this post, unbelievably based of him
Omg thank you.
What are your acolyte hilts made of? I saw your post in wip threads and it looked like sintra
Or am I a goof
Fran's name used to be "Darth Papyrus" iirc, which was pretty telling about the papercraft.
Me personally I have childhood brainrot and cannot help but imagine him as a tall, smiling skeleton.
Congratulations I no longer visualize you as a skelebro.
(What playing Undertale as a young lad does to a motherfucker LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO)
I'mma really need a company to make this but not as rotund...
Why is it so,,, chonk chonk,,,
Korbanth wants to make them but not that T H I C C
Maybe not from Korbanth,,,
Wariness due to third party opinions offered.
Like they're not bad per se but there's better and Korbanth from what I understand is like,,, a little shady.
Like the tiniest bit.
Ahhhhhhh I see
No way, that Sol hilt is made out of paper?!
So was the Sol hilt you did earlier a 3d print or something?
Good luck to you, I can't wait to see the progress
3D most likely
im at the point where im seriously judging the intelligence of people who take "the sith have been extinct for a millennia" as 100% fact and that it somehow breaks lore
I'd take it over the complete lack of important stuff that we have now
I just seen the dumbest argument for why the acolyte is bad/“woke”
“Not even the lightsabers are straight anymore” (in reference to vernestras light whip.)
I hate this fandom XD
Honestly I actively try to hide the fact that I’m a Star Wars fan when I’m meeting new people
I like Star War
I don’t hide my love of Star Wars, it’s something I’ve grown up with in my 41 years.
I do not agree with all the raging and hate some people do towards it though.
If someone doesn’t like it, just stop watching it and enjoy something else, why waste time hating.
I channel any anger I have over dimwits into the music I listen to.
I channel my anger into for honor
That’s hard for me to do. My wife and I used lightsabers instead of engagement rings so I carry mine on my belt all the time XD
Still?
Finding another person who wears their saber on their belt out in the open is so cool.
For the last 7 years
You should download it it’s really fun trust
I'm sorry
Could be worse. It could have been trials of Osiris
For honor is definitely worse lol
fair enough, I avoided that game, and went the Mordhau and Chiv 2 route for medieval games so I don't really have a gauge for how bad it is/was
Download it and I’ll show u how bad it is
tempting, but I got enough salt rn
D2 already makes me tilted
I don't need more misery in my life
I play enough broken multiplayer games, idk if I need another
Maybe he was just super pissed and it came out? I mean Rey used it when she was stressed af about Chewbacca
My point is that if Dooku can do it, then don't nitpick Rey.
Worry about Rey's poor development, not the fact that "using lightning with no training breaks canon" when that's not even true.
Pretty fucking much
People are so gung ho for a divide. It’s all Star Wars though, enjoy what you want to enjoy
oof, now film theory's entering the big SW debates
Oh gods.

Ugh, loyal Theorists, is the galaxy far, far away losing its luster? The Star Wars fan community has been quite... argumentative... to say the least since The Force Awakens, Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker, and all of the ...
Not them using a ripped off shot of the CW S7 ending.
sure it's huge clickbait, and may have some real good opinions on how to change the franchise for the better, but it's definitely attracting the wrong crowd to that comments section
For sure...
the fact that theyre throwing the acolyte into a title saying "star wars is dead"
immediate no from me
It's a well meaning video, but definitely has fallen for some of the misinfo being spread about the series, and there's 1 or 2 points I wouldn't necessarily agree with.
Like saying that products should have plans prior to committing and shouldn't be rushed to make profit? yep, absolutely agree. Don't give in and pander to chuds? sure. However, their argument that they should listen to "lore expert fans" and shouldn't go against "established works" ever, I'm more inclined to disagree on
i will always stick to the saying "lore exists to serve the story, not the other way around"
"Following established lore" for star wars seems to be in such a weird bubble because of the status of Canon and Legends
Stop posting rage bait
sorry, forgot you wanted us to stop that
That's why the tiers exist
Movie/tv show
Video games
Books/comics
Reference books
Etc
The Runtimes for #TheAcolyte EP 7 & EP 8 (Finale) are 43 minutes each!

sweet
I have a feeling these episodes are going to work well back to back, just like episodes 4&5.
Are the episodes dropping together?
doubtful
No, I don’t think so.
Just the pacing in 4 and that cliffhanger meant the wait for 5 was a tough one.
I told my friend who hasn’t started it yet, when he gets to ep4 he has to immediately watch ep5.
seen a post someone made about how one of the best decisions star wars made was making the majority of dark side girls fairly attractive. and i can absolutely agree with that on most cases.
seriously disappointing though in the comments how many people are saying disney didnt start that like anyone said that they did
Oh my gods...
Had to get everything back on the thrist track
lightsaber isnt even split in that promo shot.
I can't wait for the spoiler embargo for the Acolyte to pass so that I can meme on it in the main server.
Context: I'm doing an "r/lightsabers discord slander" video.
One of the things is "Nonemi when you bring up Qimir".
😆
me not even realizing there was a "spoiler embargo" on the server
Yeah. Two weeks after the series concludes.
so if tasi lowa wasnt in the strike team to khofar i gotta wonder why she wasnt in vernestras team. youd think she of all people would be part of the team to find out what happened to a group her own master was part of
probably the make up XD
lets not forget ahsoka was like 14 when she was taken into a war where as tasi looks far older than that
An AI-generated one, probably? Clone Wars' shaders don't look like that.
Today I'm here to kill the mood.
Did you just send a PNG as an emote.
Vencord be wildin'
Lord.
What's interesting to me is that it ignites straight-bladed before becoming a whip.
it looks so silly tho lmao
and it also straightens into a straight blade before she turns it off
Wonder if her lightwhip is also a saber and they just never fucking told us/I never knew.
no thats exactly what it is
in the high republic comics i believe it was a saber first and she added the whip function after
she actually hid it from stellan for a bit cus she was worried what he would think of it
am i seeing a little instability in her saber here or is that the plants behind her tinted by the color?
Plasma version of one of these bad boys probably
Yeah I just found out that that's what it is.
@tawdry escarp
is that an official pic?
man idk I never liked the concept of lightwhips but I figured they could make it look cool. That...does not
I feel like lightwhips should have a thinner... can you call it a blade?
yeah fr
But the thickness of the lightwhip blade does not work with it.
that looks like a big purple tongue
Honestly I don't like thick lightsaber blades in the first place.
I liked the Ralph McQuarrie concept art and the Rebels depiction.
The thin Rebels blades in this case would actually work for the lightwhip.
Or a really spiritually enlightened snake.
It also doesn’t help that the thinning out of the whip part isn’t as thin as a regular whip and looks instead like a tentacle
Lumiya would be disappointed.
it's just the dildo bat from saints row
i think its a case of it gets thinner the further down it goes like some whips irl
I still think it's too thick at the base though.
where as in this pic its retracting and straightening back into a proper blade
an argument can be made though that the blade itself is a fair bit thicker than the regular lightsaber
it looks better from afar it seems, but yea that blade is incredibly thick, most likely a sacrifice made when utilizing GE proportions
in all honesty the only saber i think has a great excuse to have galaxys edge thickness is kelnaccas saber. wookie hands are giant.
Haven't gotten the chance to look deeper at the gauntlets on the HR Jedi, but apparently they're unique to the wearer. Left is Sol's and the right is Yord's
I figured they were standardized
Apparently rotten tomatoes just hid the audience rating for Acolyte. Has that ever happened before?
not in my memory
but you know people are going to come up with some way to say this is "proof" the show is bad
Seems it's happened with a couple other things, including a Louis CK special and a Doctor Who episode?
hopefully it means they're trying to purge the bot reviews
there's a bunch of stuff on the "What to Watch" sidebar with greyed out critic and audience reviews rn
they've done it to the most recent season of the boys as well
ah another show people are saying recently went woke... how the boys is going woke is beyond me but thats not for here
Thoughts? I saw this on Facebook and it didn't have a source, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt
This would not explain the hilts that are not turned on (like Mog's, unless he's gonna have a fight in the next two episodes)
consistancy
True,
I think this is someone making shit up on the internet
it sounds like something disney might do, but like anyone who has legit lightsabers knows they can be made WAY thinner with no issues
It’s someone trying to justify the use of savi hilts bc they are butthurt that people think the sabers look silly
Example
@weary sable
I mean, you do be simpin the hardest for him
NOT ENOUGH FOR THAT.
Idk big log
meanwhile theres this XD

Nakey Qimir is wild.
Their source is a reddit guy https://old.reddit.com/r/lightsabers/comments/1dumuq9/every_other_lightsaber_in_star_wars_vs/lbin618/
The source has some truth in the comment tho. Rosario's hilts had the batteries wired into her gauntlets because the hilts were too slim to have them and the radio equipment to communicate with the lighting department in there
Hmmm makes sense
I get that CFX and Proffie controlled by Bluetooth exist, but they're definitely using something completely different for that
Though I can't really refute either claim
And a Bluetooth module definitely does not have the same range as what they're using on set
i just think that anyone that says "akshually i work in this industry" doesnt actually work in the industry
This makes me wonder if it's an improvement or a downgrade to have the lightsabers be like this and not like they were in PT, but what do I know
Consider them an evolutionary lineage, hilts getting smaller over time like how technology does
That’s my head canon
makes sense considering we had protosabers before
Rosario's hilts were seen in the Mando and Ahsoka behind the scenes videos
Just how dueling is so good in the prequels since it’s one of the Jedi peaks and then falls off in the OT and ST
Oh I wasn't even considering like an in universe explanation but that's fair
Though, this explanation might be an issue if we consider hilts from earlier in the high republic like Dagan's, Santari's, etc. and even hilts from, presumably, earlier in the timeline like Darth Atrius's
Shhhh don’t think too hard lol
Those appear to be slimmer, but we're also working with comic and video game sources with those
But that's how my brain workssssss 😞
it could also be a case of them making the film props big enough to see on screen
for example the pirate treasure used in pirate movies is comically over sized when compared to ACTUAL historyically accurate coins found in pirate treasure
naur in 6 months we're gonna have a new lineup of Savi's parts and GE Legacy
that's the only reason
One thing I kinda do like about high republic is how it shows the progression of the galaxy. Like if we look at Kotor, the galaxy appears to be in a similar, if not exact place, politically and technologically despite being 5000 years in the past
I wish they would just come out and say they are so big because they want to sell accurate hilts at GE. Would make me feel better about the chonks lol
it still wouldn't make me feel better because it's just hilariously absurd that Amandla's hands can't even close around Qimir's saber lmao
(inb4 twss)
Yeahhhhhh
I still wouldn’t like them. But I would feel better knowing that was the reason and not some oversight
that can be taken out of context XD
If Disney takes a crack at Old Republic, Id almost want them to have the galaxy be on a significantly smaller scale than what we see in the High Republic. Like imagine an Old Republic whose inhabitants only spanned about 5-10 star systems
They also didn’t have preexisting designs to go off for acolyte. At least for Old Republic, they could use KOTOR or SWTOR hilts
that would need to be well before the Great Hyperspace War
because even in KOTOR/SWTOR era like the whole galaxy is mapped/inhabited
(with the "unknown regions" just being "the Chiss and Zakuul fuck up anyone that comes here")
Wasn't there something about a Dawn of the Jedi thing coming out.
they've had hyperspace travel for like.... at least 25,000 years?
since 25,000 BBY is roughly when the Republic was founded
apparently the only recently (in reference to the acolyte) invented tech to detect when ships were about to jump in or out of hyperspace
I wonder what the future looks like. You know, aside from the fact that people will probably be jumping to other galaxies.
well of the old comics are anything to go by....
Darth Krayt went a little crazy lol
i dont even wonder about the future. every star wars story takes place "a long time ago"
i wonder whats going on in the galaxy right fucking now
WELL WELL WELL
GUESS WHO WROTE A STAR WARS SPINOFF ABOUT THAT EXACT POSSIBILI— [gets shot]
Whatever the reason, I don't think the size of the sabers is an oversight. There's a lot of work that goes into set design, prop design, costumes, etc. That being such a noticeable oversight on something so synonymous with Star Wars as a whole feels nigh impossible.
Yea, that’s why I’m in the “they did it for GE” camp
Star Wars does everything right but plot and character writing nowadays.
Same
Visuals, props, character design, casting, sound, lighting? All fantastic.
So yeah, it was intentional for sure.
Eh, I don't think the writing is that bad. We all look at the Star Wars we grew up with through rose colored lenses, but the writing has always been sort of the weak point of Star Wars
None of the new stuff feels noticeably worse than other Star Wars stuff.
They can do it here since there is not prior examples of the hilts. They can’t really do it for ahsoka or obi shows since those hilts were already preexisting
Yeah lol
Give it 20 years and everyone will love the sequels and all the shows. Just like the prequels.
Sure, but it's still an intentional choice. They know what sizes sabers tend to be, they've done them before.
I'm already there. I'm happy there's new Star Wars, to go along with my old Star Wars
I’m right there with ya. I just hope they don’t over do it like they did with marvel
I haven’t watched anything since Spider-Man no way home.
Tbf I don't mind the writing quality. Like yes, the rational part of me knows it's not up to par.
On the other hand, "funny space wizard with plot armour made physical and purple hair go brrr".
I'm the same way with Marvel. The only show I haven't watched yet is Echo.
The movies were great but then they started adding in tv shows year round and it felt like a chore keeping up
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING SINCE 2019
I wish Disney would wait a year to release something new.
There's gonna be a sequel boom, possibly spurned on by teens and adults memeing the fuck out of them like we memed the prequels
Like honestly it's the same way with Pokémon rn, believe it or not.
Which is why Pokémon fans around the world were stoked to hear that there's not a new game this year. Instead, it's coming out next year.
It’s like how the people that grew up with the OT didn’t like the prequels but all of us that grew up with the prequels loved them
This is why I stopped playing call of duty
I hated getting a new game every year
But now the prequel haters moved on to sequel hating
"Please stop giving us new Pokémon releases on the regular it's nice to play a Pokémon game but the quality is going down a little."
GameFreak: Okay we'll spend a year doing Legends Arceus.
Fans: Oh cool! Y'all are actually going to spend time on— DID YOU SAY LEGENDS.
Talk about a chore trying to keep a living dex has been the worst in the past few years lol
Thats fair. It's a lot to keep up with. I basically only do that with Star Wars and Marvel. I've missed so many other good shows, because I only have so much mental bandwidth.
Just an angry bunch lol.
Are you tryna keep your living dex in your Pokémon HOME account??
Or do you just mean like, keeping a Living Dex per game?
On my home account
Yeah that's wild.
Two of my friends who are brothers.
They have a complete HOME Dex. Every move, every Pokémon. The entire thing.
I’m up to date but version exclusives are a pain. I have to remember to by the less popular version to make it easier
How the fuck do they have every Pokémon and move known to mankind??
That’s insanity
I just wanna complete my Sword Dex man...
Actually bruh I still need to finish my Curry Dex.
I need 18 fucking tins of the Shield-exclusive restaurant food.
Because I have every flavour in every size of all the Curry (I am insane and I love Camping in Pokémon Shield).
I don’t even want to dip my toes into that lol
I very honestly just want Cursola.
Idgaf about any of the other version exclusives YA BOIYE WANTS A GALARIAN CURSOLA.
👉 👈 do y'all think Qimir would play Pokémon,,,
Like if we showed it to him do you think he'd enjoy it,,,
I mean, maybe he likes keeping pets. Caged, on a leash, owned...
NAUR
so off topic but i think i need someone to tell me no real quick. im looking at spending over 300 dollars on galaxys edge stuff...
because i run a star wars pannel at my local small town convention and ive been the most popular attraction since the convention started
plus holocrons look awesome on my display
The lightsabers are too chonky (though I own a Savi's), but the holocrons, credits, sabacc cards, those sorts of thing are pretty cool, imo.
i dont care for the lightsabers. i have my own sabers that im happy with the holocrons and crystals are what attracts me
the next saber im getting is going to be engagement sabers for me and my wife and then likely thats it
because this
Oh so no lightsaber stuff
just holocrons and crystals
Didn't finish reading everything
i wouldnt care for the crystals but since they have the s2's harder to hack than the s1's i kinda need those
on the bright side this guy doesnt have the wayfinders so im not getting tempted by those
I liek dis holocron :3
https://genesiscustomsabers.com/?p=29605&preview=true
(in the store you can also buy it empty with no electronics)
while that is very tempting...
Very tempting but does not really go with my display unfortunately
god my brain has rotted so much, I saw those two pictures and immediately thought of hollow purple
Shit is sad
Watching ahsoka and man she's a bitch dude
Yeah she's very closed off for a lot of the series.
To be frank it's not surprising that she became more jaded with age due to all of the things she experienced.
I miss sass-soka.
Your not helping
here is your external battery as seen with the red wire
Ooh i do love behind the scenes stuff and the making of movie(tv) magic
Hopefully the prop team is given resources to miniaturize the tech in acolyte and use them with the slimmer hilts from ahsoka
Allow them to do even better stunts
More variety of costumes too
Maybe bring back ahsokas clone wars sleeveless look for rosario
Maybe everyone can go sleeveless lol
The Acolyte sabers shove everything in there instead of using externals because actors are dropping them, grabbing them, throwing them, trading them, etc in this show
Is there a chance these hilts are also bigger as we’re further back in the timeline, like our tech gets smaller over time as it improves, PC’s are now in our pockets for example.
Just a wild thought.
Sure we can use lore to explain
But prop team budget and time constraints
I do hope that people on the prop team are proud of their work and i enjoy the choreography that actors are able to do with it
I hope they aren't discouraged by people just shouting chonky
You mean like Vader throwing his saber in ROTJ
Or The Stranger throwing his saber at Osha
We've seen high republic hilts in comics and such, they're not that fat
I wonder how they filmed this
Red glow on the ground
Pyros going off for the trees
Spin a red LED bar over the set and make the trees pop?
Yeah like that but more fast paced and with multiple people fighting
Maybe with someone doing gun-kata too lol while I'm dreaming
Oh, aye, they’re definitely not chonky.
If they ever re release the statues in Palpatine's office, immediately snag those. They're so dope
Engagement sabers?! I'm stealing this cause that's so wholesome
Even further back look at Darth Atrius's hilts, they're not as chonk as the acolyte sabers
We don't concretely know when Darth Atrius lived, but it's safe to assume he's before high republic
Also there's Darth Krall's saber
yeah, just figured I'd show from the same era for context lol
Feel free XD
Is that also Keeve Trennis's lightsaber. Looks pretty similar to the Temple Guard ones, wonder if that had any influence on their design in lore
I know the first pic is Keeve trennis
Personally people are blowing the saber stuff out of proportion. Are they big? Sure. Would I buy one that size? No. Is that detail the part that is sticking in my craw to dislike the show? Not at all. Its one of a larger group of things that add up to make it not as good as it could be.
I get that we are more saber related in this specific server though.
It's just a little silly seeing them do all the fancy combat flips and twirls when their hands can barely fit around the hilts lol
i'm not disagreeing. its just not enough to get to me though.
as has already been stated. star wars isn't exactly a literary pinnacle. so i kinda let things slide to just enjoy space wizards
I really like Qimir's lightsaber lol
Sol's and Qimir's are my fav
Like yes Qimir is cool but his lightsaber actually rocks.
The split is super amazing. Raaaghhh lightsaber shoto hidden behind the pommel go brrrrrrr
🥵
Same, Yord is my 3rd favorite
Which lightsaber are you talking about
Trying to find a picture,,,
Vernestra using her Lightwhip. #starwars #indianajones #theacolyte #fanedit #funny
Okay, not a pic of Qimir's saber, but I found this video mildly funny.
I wanna see the star wars equivalent of that one scene in Indiana Jones where he shoots the dude doing sword tricks
Thats sort of a fun way to rewatch the end of the Kenobi/Grievous duel
i think the story behind this is better than the scene itself.
apparently ford was suffering from dysentery so he couldn't be outside long enough to actually do the duel
No way, that's actually hilarious
learning little details like that about scenes is awesome.
viggo kicking the helmet is fellowship
leo cutting his hand in django
Matthew McConaughey turning one page of directions into six minutes of what the fuck
Most of that scene wasn't even in the script, the chest beating was his warm-ups and confused the fuck out of Leonardo
im predicting that there will be some ape who complains about the title of this episode and somehow relates it to abortion or something
god i fucking love sol
Not as much as I love Qimir that's for sure.
we know
You know, I still like Sol
He fucked up. But I imagined something way worse lol
I blame horn momma
Koril
bruh were they gonna essence transfer into the twins??
Gonna have to wait until tomorrow to see the episode lol
I'm excited to find out what happened though.
LMAOOOOOOOOOOO

hoo boy
I always love that the automatic solution is always "we need to discuss with the council first" xD
I did not like whatever that outro song was
In a vacuum it's fine, but that felt out of place for a star wars thing

i dont mean this to be hurtful towards the actress but every time young osha/mae is on screen it legit decreases my attention span
I can already see the hundreds of videos raging at the mention of a Force Vergence
Oh lord.
The split consciousness however....verrrry interesting
So.... are the twins the vergence or was the vergence used to create them?
im still betting that alchemy was used
im thinking what the detected as a vergence was in actuality what the witches did to create the twins
holy shit that kelnacca fight though!
they did not disappoint showing a wookie jedi going ham
The Force was definitely manipulated in a way it should not have been
The duel with Kelnacca went just how I expected it to: With the Wookiee throwing everyone around with his brute strength.
From fan reactions I'm seeing lots of people acting like Sol maliciously let Mae die
yeah he did
"WTF HE CHOOSE OSHA HE'S INSANE"
Like...did you not just watch the episode??? He had no strength left
no one will deny this. guy let his feelings get the better of him
So then what should he have done? Let both girls fall?
he shouldve not gotten involved to begin with
he shouldve waited for the council to respond like indara was saying
But what does that have to do with him apparently deliberately letting Mae die?
I'm talking about his action at that moment.
Yes he was wrong for interfering, but the entire time he was wanting to save both
So he didn't just let Mae die cause he felt like it. He was losing every bit of strength
The true voice was Indara
i get what your saying and im not trying to say your wrong either, but all of this couldve been avoided XD
Oh true yeah xD
I only have clips to go off of so I have no clue what's happening lol
Like at the end yeah he's getting slapped for pursuing
Torbin more for overreacting
I know Sol killed Aniseya and Koril fought him before possessing Kelnacca to fight both him and Torbin.
torbin is worse in this sense. an argument can be made that sol was trying to protect the twins
(Whole episodes get uploaded through clipped sections on YT and this is how I "watch" the show lol... you watch enough videos, and you can piece together what happened when)
but torbin was doing this for selfish reasons
Oh the "I want to go back to Coruscant" bit when Aniseya invaded his mind...
Props to Torbin for not wanting to do what is literally his job I guess?? Like bruh.
dude wanted to go back before they even found the girls XD
i can kinda get where hes coming from
theyve been out there for nearly 2 months and found a bunch of plants and not much else
Isn't he also still a Padawan? He's not a minor but he's still like a "kid", right? Inexperienced and afraid of the outside world?
he is still a padawan yes
at least in these scenes
did they say he was a knight or master in his death episode?
He was a master by the time he died
from padawan to master in 16 years
now im wondering what the time period between obiwan being knighted and mastered was XD
So uh
yes?
What everyone think of this one
loved it
kelnaccas fight was brilliant. i love the savage nature of a wookie portrayed in the fighting style of a jedi
I was expecting Kal to drag Torbin's face across the dirt
both parties were in the wrong. all of this could have been avoided if sol kept his nose out of shit. the witches shouldve stayed firm and now allowed the jedi to preform their test. the jedi shouldve have trespassed into the covens territory.
exactly this ^
the best thing about this episode is that were still not getting the full story of what happened that day. first was oshas pov then it was sol's (and less for the other jedi) pov
im certain it wouldve looked different from korils pov
Koril might still be alive
correct me if im wrong but it seems like she just disappeared possessing kelnacca and then when he was rescued she just was never seen again
Isn’t there just one more episode to go
There's no way Indara killed the entire coven when she freed Kal
Yes
im thinking she may have killed some and knocked out others, but with the way that the coven was collapsing around them, unconscious is as good as dead eventually
So much for the power of many....
I have a firm belief that Osha will become the new Acolyte and Mae will join Sol. It's a very Star Warsy thing to do
well in fairness, suddenly getting cut off from your ritual disorients even sith lords. look at path of destruction when bane is channeling the brotherhood of darkness to create a force storm
But... Mae hates him for killing her mom right in front of her
so we legit just caught sol in a straight up lie
But she wants to find Osha.
So she will join up with him for now
Especially now that Sol caught Mae
in the first episode he says how mae killed her mothers and here just find out nah bitch you just murdered her
Is it fair game to call Sol a dirty sinner for that.
You know, killing someone and then lying and it, that is.
I don't like how the flash backs take up whole episodes especially since the second one is just a slightly different perspective of the same events.
Aniseya: turns into witch magic monster and looks like she's about to attack
Sol: stabs
Aniseya: "I was gonna give Osha to you."
Well then effing say that BEFORE you turn into a magical witch spirit which can possess people!
I very much enjoyed seeing these events from a different point of view.
am i the only one who see her morph into some kind of force demon for a split second there too?
45 min
Yeah she fumbled hard on appearances
Wasted 2 episodes on the same flash back and now limits them on finishing the story in one last episode
I don't agree they were wasted. It's Rashomon style storytelling.
That's how whodunnits work
The Acolyte is a whodunnit
That is a whodunnit? Ok
I only really enjoy Sol and most of episode five, can’t lie.
They've only described it as a mystery since it was announced. I know, big surprise to find out now.
same flash back. different POV. got a bunch more information from someone who wasnt a scared little girl
Clue does the same thing. It's a red herring
The flash backs could easily be condensed.
That's not a whodunnit. Jedi intervened and witches retaliated. Am I missing something?
I did like that. You think the mystery will be "who is this Sith?", but the real mystery is what exactly happened on Brendok. Today was the reveal, next week the consequences of the truth being laid bare.
All three versions of Luke’s confrontation with his nephew.
Really? Because I feel like this episode revealing the details of what actually happened to the coven is a fair amount stuff happening. That just me, I guess.
we seen that mae immediately regretted her actions when she lit the journel on fire. we see that it was the jedi who caused most of the destruction rather than mae. we see the witches could not have done shit much worse than they did XD, we see the jedi royally fucked up where they shouldve butted out.
We see that Koril really sucks
women legit encouraged a child to get mad and act on her temper tantrum to fuck over almost everyone
Yeah, she super incited shit with Mae.
Did not need a whole episode. It didn't allow the present day story to develop more. Episode 6 was nothing but convincing OSHA to go against Sol. We don't know who that mysterious sith is, his real motive or why he is part of the story. Only one episode left.
idk man maybe it just isn't your cup of tea
Thats the vibe I'm getting too.
understandable criticism though, I get that if a series has limited time to tell a story, you want to get a ton out of it, but gotta leave at least some questions unanswered to get a hopeful season 2
We still haven't seen one actor appear
Which is hinting towards him being the master
also keeps people watching if you hold your biggest cards till towards the end
Also valid.
Darth Tenebrous? Maybe. Or maybe another red herring
Darth Crimson Pisces
Darth Icky. Fulfilling George's dream
Inb4 Darth Jar Jar for reals this time 😆
The twins story stayed the same. They fought over OSHA leaving and they still are fighting over Osha leaving.
I honestly wouldn't mind them taking a stab at a Sith gungan
which actor is this?
i havent paid attention to cast before the show really
wrong ping but if I had to guess it's probably David Harewood
XD sorry
lmao all good
I don't feel like the present day story was developed enough to easily wrap it in 45 minutes.
I guess we'll have to see next week
Eh, I disagree. I took this episode to be Sol telling Mae the truth. Osha is with Qimir. They likely go to find her, Sol and Qimir fight to a standstill, Sol eventually loses, likely due to the interference of one of the twins, then Qimir (or an unseen Master) takes one or both of the twins for training.
like there's an overreliance on "what happened in the past" through flashbacks and expo dumps in order to drive a plot despite having scenes set in the present tense? I can kinda see that, but also it being a mystery inspired series, that kind of pacing makes sense in a way.
you realize that they have been planning for a Season 2 this whole time, and even were originally going to save the Sith reveal for it, right?
I can sorta agree but on the idea that this show is just way too short
Season 1 cliffhanger ending wouldn't be out of place for literally any TV series ever
It would only work if they leave it open for season 2
which they probably will
I did not know this.
The story according to Leslye will wrap up in S1 BUT leave enough for a potential S2
even if it's not the best overall in terms of what SW can offer, it's definitely been pulling numbers for Disney, so continuing it seems like the obvious choice. but it also will probably mean quick return to production and attempting to speed through making a new season
Qimir or what ever his name is so far got zero story or character development
yeah since we're 7/8 episodes in and he hasn't even been seen yet
Neither did Emperor Palpatine across the original 3 movies.
In all fairness, how much development did yoda have in the prequels
Consider that Lucas purposely started in the middle and went back to tell that story.
I feel like episode 6 of this show did a lot for Qimir's character development. He's the most intriguing darksider to me since Anakin.
zero? I mean we know he was part of the jedi order at some point and potentially clashed with someone (Vernastra by what most people think), and that he may not even be a sith. motivation wise, it's a lot of angst and hatred, like pretty much any other sith we've seen in a SW series
???
bumbling sidekick who killed a guy and took over his apothecary shop is revealed to secretly be the Sith? training the Dark acolyte that has been killing Jedi, has a showdown murdering an entire Jedi squad and takes the main protagonist to his Batcave secret cortosis planet to indoctrinate as his new acolyte since the last one tried to bail on him, and further reveals that he's "much older than he looks" hinting at a past connection with the Jedi order
yeah okay "zero story or character development" lol
We don't know who he really is, his intentions or why he is part of the story. Those are more like "going through the motions" kind of stuff.
we've also been given information that he's definitely older than he looks
Lucas purposely did not do that. He was making it up as he went, and famously so. Luke and Leia weren't originally siblings, Vader wasn't originally their father, hell, Star Wars wasn't the original film he wanted to make. He wanted to do a Flash Gordon film, and the studio shut him down.
wow, it's almost as if it's a mystery show!
I lot was made up as he went but he wanted to start with episode 4 but the studio was against it.
My point is a lot has to be done in one short episode
I mean if cop shows can create and tie up a mystery in a single episode, they've probably got it all figured out. and if they don't then ig that sucks, oh well
this was never pitched as a "one and done" like Kenobi was, as a "limited series"
It was always meant to be a multi season story? I'm excited by that. I like the show a lot so far.
I would be ok with some reveal with an open ending to lead into season 2
If there's a season 2 I hope it's more sith centric, we are sorely lacking on sith lore in the Disney canon
We're kind of lacking in Sith lore through all the films. They serve as powerful mysterious adversaries for the heroes.
I would love for the show to explore them, though
I'm just annoyed by the fact that Mae can't see that she contributed to the destruction of the coven and her family in which she didn't want.
I mean, she was 8, and basically having a temper tantrum. Then was taken in by a dude who I imagine purposefully stoked that rage.
Makes sense to me, trying to avoid the accountability of the accidents that caused immense trauma
And still doesn't understand in present day.
I know people like that in real life. That absolutely refuse to look inwards and see that maybe they were the bad guy.
Her and Sol both.
Damn maybe Mae will actually become Sol's new Padawan. /j
That maybe bad things that happen to them are their own fault.
look at it from her point of view. her mother encourage her to get destructive. then she lit a fire and it snapped her out of it, she went to get help and suddenly the jedi are murdering her mothers
That one guy who went on a rant about being banned when he 100% wasn't.
I wasn't even thinking about him, but yeah, excellent point, haha
THAT WILL NEVER STOP BEING FUNNY TO ME I'M SORRY Y'ALL HE'S JUST SO POINTLESS
✋️ ✋️ ✋️
I need to go back and rewatch (probably binge them all next weekend) but iirc in the first flashback when Mae was lighting the fire, she had the black "possessed eyes" as she looked up through the door at Osha
If that's the case. I missed it
She may have. She certainly looked entranced by the flames, then when they got our of control, she snapped out of it.
I do hope we someday get a series/movie with a sith protagonist, could be neat
same
They also need to expand on why Sol was so adamant on getting Osha out of there.
It explains that his feelings pretty much caused those events but why did he feel so strongly that way?
at any rate, something was going wrong in her head when she was staring into the flames
I mean yeah, she tried to kill her sister lmao
That’s just sibling behavior idk what you’re talking about
So I feel like a lot is still left on the table story wise.
and like 5 seconds later "oh nooo, moooooommmm!!! mooooom!!"
I'm no longer sure she did. I think she only wanted to burn the sketchbook.
Dangit Avsati, I wanted to make that snarky response!
The rest of the fire seemed like an accident.
Partially caused by the aforementioned entrancement, whatever it was.
why did quigon feel so strongly about anakin. he was being questioned on it consistently
that weird hole in the ground was probably the dark side vergence they were looking for
Not a very strong point but Anakin fit the prophecy of the Chosen one.
What is Osha?
An anomaly apparently
She had a tear
a girl who he thinks is being abused and knows is being made to lie on a simple test
osha at least clearly shows signs of wanting to go become a jedi, mae seems quite against it
force works in mysterious ways.
and then "they marked her sister with dark magic"
like I feel like his reasons are explained???
Could make even more sense if they end up doing the whole “Sol and Qimir are mirrors of the twins”
there was like a whole conversation about it
I don't think that's enough. He feels connected just because?
and theres real evidence of her being abused
It’s the force. Idk how you expect it to work
well here's another reason he wants to get her out of there.
Then why are the other Jedi and the council not feeling the same way? I still feel it needs expanded on.
Space magic does what space magic does.
because the jedi council are a bunch of blind scared set in their ways monks sitting in a temple at the center of the galaxy
That holy space magic just hits people differently on individual levels. Why can we see some Jedi use mind tricks while never seeing others use them?
Why didn't Obi Wan feel anything when Qui Gon felt attached to Anakin? He'd likely have known about the prophecy too.
It me it's just weird trying to make sense of a rushed condensed story that could use a few more episodes
True, but thats really more of Disney’s fault than the writers no?
And I do have issues with the prequel stories. A lot of it felt rushed as well
It’s not as though they chose from the start to do an 8 ep (with 30 min runtimes) when making the story
God I wish this story could've gotten at least 8 1 hour episodes
I'm watching this, the boys, and HotD right now and I want this show to be on their level
The prequels to me are like having Anakin's turn to the dark side set on simmering in 1 and 2. Then 3 feels like they realized they ran out of time and boiled the pot rapidly.
This show needed more time to spend with characters
Thats a fair assessment. The Clone Wars certainly makes the prequels themselves better, but that shouldn't be required viewing for good pacing in the films.
I did like how Torbin's motivations are established with his scene explaining his desire to leave, and then Aniseya preying on that. If we had a longer episode, maybe we could've seen more of that anxiety in Torbin, or more of Sol's conflicted emotions. This show honestly just needed more time to give us character interactions
why did all the other Jedi not feel that Anakin was the "Chosen One" like Qui-Gon did?
The prequels did what I feel this show is doing.
~~George only made the Prequels so he could sell more toys ~~
God could you imagine making a tv series required watching to understand an over-arching plot line ? How silly would that be, good thing no cinematic universe has ever decided that’s a good idea/s (marvel wtf were you thinking)
👆
Haha, you're not wrong. He really caught the "sell toys" bug by ROTJ.
According to 3 Anakin turned so Padme will not die. That feels thin but ran out of movie time because it had to remain as a trilogy.
Well, and he was told his whole life he was special, but was denied the rank of Master, and basically had a father figure turn out to be a Sith right at a crucial moment.
It is rushed, though.
I mean does tie into Luke not wanting to kill Vader and how that desire to save someone is built into their family, but that’s just me coming up with a reason
So that was enough to go and murder the entire Jedi temple ?
Love makes ya do crazy things
Did we miss the "dark side corrupts" thing or
No it's not! It's a cinematic masterpiece that I hold up on a pedestal and nothing Disney ever makes will be able to touch its lofty heights! - SWT probably
"only then will you be powerful enough to save padme"
yes it was enough
But still it was all to save Padme. He became a monster just to save Padme. It still feels thin.
call me a monster but if murdering a church was what id have to do to save my wifes life, id damn well do it XD
This is just an Orpheus and Eurydice repackaged
nuh uh, I can do whatever I want. you're not my space mom!
Anakin became evil and corrupted solely because his wife was dying. I get the whole attachment issue but to me that's a very thin story.
lets also remember that anakin knew padme was pregnant at that point as well. so he wasnt just fighting for her he was fighting for his kids
it is in no way a thin story for a man to fight for his family
Ok are you the kind of person who gets mad at Orpheus for turning around to look at Eurydice even though that means an eternity apart in death
bro he was starting down the path to the dark side from the very beginning when he couldn't handle leaving his mom lol
it's a thin story if you miss all the details, yeah
Well, and once committed, he witnessed first hand how powerful Palpatine was, who knew about Padme. I'd imagine fear of what Palpatine would do to her was a big part of it too.
then went and murdered an entire tribe of Tuskens and the women and children too as an angry angsty teenager
Oooooh that is a good thing to bring up as well. He’s been in a religious order that’s been teaching him to suppress emotions as much as possible, while also having him fight in a war as a teenager to young adult. He’s had very little emotional development that’s been healthy
That's what I was saying. They eased into it. By slowly hinting at it in 1 and 2. Then boom he just turns in 3 because he had a vision of Padme dying. His mom died but didn't fully turn evil. I still feel like they ran out of time and just went with it.
he had been having visions (multiple) for a while
Didn't Padme have a line about how he's having nightmares again?
yeah
I'm aware he has visions. I'm not arguing against that.
he didnt turn evil in that moment because there was nothing more he could do. his mothers death broke him already but with padme he had a time line and knew he could become more powerful before she gave birth to save her. thats when he chose the dark side.
he saw her dying in childbirth, that gave him the time line he needed to prevent it
I don't think it is enough to go against the entire Jedi order and the Republic.
it absolutely is
no, you're saying "he had 1 vision of Padme dying and suddenly turned evil"
when he had been having them constantly and has been turning evil for years with temptations to the dark side (i.e. genociding an entire tribe of desert people)
Because it’s not meant to be logical
I never said 1
there is no religion or government that will stand against a man fighting for his family.
Disagree. How can it make him think the Jedi turned against him?
Then boom he just turns in 3 when he had a vision of Padme dying
Lay the argument to rest, guys.
This is pointless.
Justifying actions in his mind
How does that mean 1 vision?
Yeah that singular vision not one vision.
do you not know that "a" is a singular article?
Am I having a stroke
and "boom just turned in 3" like he hadn't been in the process of it for years
Palpatine telling him the Jedi don't trust him, they they are corrupt, Windu not granting him master, of allowing him on the council (never been done in the history of the jedi), Windu defeating Palpatine, and telling Anakin that he's too dangerous to be taken alive.
I referred to that vision. I referred to a single vision.
I will admit, the phrasing makes it seem otherwise.
How else would I word it when I'm talking about just one vision?
"That vision".
Look point of the matter is, Anakin is not a rational thinker, and that has been established beforehand. He’s known to take risks and dangerous choices to succeed, and throwing in the addition of potential danger of his now wife? He’s going to be looking for the best option to save her, and if the Jedi are hiding things from him and keeping him from his full potential, he’s gonna explore other avenues
to which Padme says after he wakes up, "Have you been having nightmares again" indicating is has happened before
Anakin turned Palpatine in.
and then un-turned him in
"Boom just turned in three when he had that vision."
"Boom just turned in three when he had that one vision."
For future reference.
So why all of the sudden defending Palpatine?
I can't remember what was in the canon novelization vs. EU/Legends but Palps iirc was sending him the visions and otherwise messing with him
And what happened next?
regret?
Did we watch different films
Realization that the Jedi may have cut off his only chance to save padme?
Is there a Lucas-special version that changes things
Probably because Palpatine seduced Anakin to the dark side with the promise to save his wife since the Jedi said "just don't give a fuck, skill issue".
Doesn’t he literally say “he’s the only one that can save her” to Windu during that whole part in the film?
That was not displayed in the film. Anakin regretting he turned Palpatine in.
incorrect actually
he does shot an instance of regret i believe at the temple
There's a great scene where Padme is sitting on a chair, and then it pans to Anakin
Do we need to rewatch Episode 3 as a watch party.
also sitting on a chair
and Anakin sitting in the council room and he hears Palpatines voice "You know if they destroy me... blahblahblah"
Maybe not verbally said sure, but you cannot deny that the body acting shows regret for his actions
You all can justify it as you please. You can like it. But it's not enough for me for him to do a 180 in the film. Goes from rescuing Obi-wan and apologizing to him in the first half to wanting to kill him and the entire order the later half.
Then we watched different films, I guess.
LOVE MAKES PEOPLE DO IRRATIONAL THINGS
Have you seen how fast people irl ruin their lives??
No no, we didn't watch different films.
some of us watched a film, some didn't
I was trying to be a bit diplomatic
And fear of losing love? You’re gonna be going batshit insane trying to figure out how to fix it
there's like a good 3 minute scene of anakin and padme looking out windows while palpatine is speaking into anakin's head.
People literally ruin their lives and the lives of others in seconds irl, honestly it's not that hard to believe Anakin fell that far, considering some of the shit we see irl.
the face acting shows regret/fear/sadness
Anakin, who has the Force ability of prophetic dreams, repeatedly dreams of his baby momma dying.
Anakin's second pseudo-dad turns out to be a Sith Lord, but promises "oh yeah I can save your pookie"
Anakin does the Right Thing (TM) and informs the Jedi "omg my boss is the BBEG!"
Anakin realizes "ahhh shit I don't want my wife (that I'm not supposed to have) to die!"
Anakin allows his homie to die and realizes "welp, that happened, #yolo"
Vader does murder stuff
Vader is angry
Vader becomes BBQ
People are stupid. Anakin may be the Chosen One but he's still human. Mostly.
Not after Mustafar I guess.
How often do people go in murder sprees in the name of love?
do you watch the news? lmao
I refuse to.
Anakin is going especially insane too considering how the Jedi order would react to his wifing up padme, how to save her from death, how to win a war, trying to be the chosen one of prophecy, spy on the chancellor his good friend, etc etc etc. it’s amazing it took this long for him to break
not saying its right. but i totally get it
Have you ever heard about how Alexander the Conqueror burned down a temple of Apollo and went on a rampage after his "best friend" died?
not to make light of domestic violence, but uhhh... yeah that happens rather frequently
but also corruptive evil space magic
The term "Family Annihilators" comes to mind.
he got them eyes real quick
Also corruptive evil space magic with a emphasis on passion
"How often do people irl kill for love?"
Pretty damn often, actually!
id say thats a prime example of immediate regret right here
tbf that's after he kills Windu
different regret
Also the phrase "WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?"
Being a former slave now child war monk will getcha a real head start I guess
which is his #yolo
He regrets killing Windu for a moment but doesn't blink at killing all the kids in the temple
It sounds so crazy when you say it like that.
moment
Well at that point it’s sunk cost fallacy
wow its almost as if at that point he's channeling the corruptive evil part of the space magic
He already killed kids in Ep 2. They were Tusken, but still kids.
When you've killed once, killing again isn't much harder.
The more you hurt others, the easier it becomes. The Dark Side's amplification properties make this jump drastic.
Not to mention all of the killing Anakin did beforehand.
“Welp I’ve already helped to kill one of the strongest members of the order, not like I got anything else left for me, and he at least can help me save padme”
Because space magic in place of missing story. Got it.
it's kinda an integral part
and he didn't even have the Dark Side Eyes thing going on then either
Not missing. Ignored, maybe, but it's there.
It’s crazy how a story with a magic system similar to a Holy Spirit will use that system to help explain the story
here we go another case of his regret at what hes done. but dude is FAR too deep to turn back now
Anakin is a very fucked up person
guy is straight up crying after having commit genocide twice over
