As far as I know, 737 would have flaps extended at flaps 5 configuration and it is a common setting for takeoffs, and both slats and flaps would extend. But in RFS, if I have flaps 5 on 737-800, there’s only slats extended and have no aerodynamics effects.

I’m sure it is possible to make adjustments without major template updates as now we are having a quite detailed model.

I mean, the slats do have some effects on the aerodynamics, but it's a little hard to notice

If you want to get technical - slats re-energise the boundary layer of airflow over the wing and thus delay flow separation- they effectively increase the angle of attack the wing can be flown at without inducing a stall. By their very nature, they will also add some drag. They do not increase lift directly
