OMG YESS I can't read the whole article right now, but the way the livestock industry has monopolized public lands is outrageous. There's a great book on the topic called This Land. I highly recommend it!
Unfortunately, this is not about to change...
I've done a lot of research on this topic because it's of great interest for me and I volunteer for pro-wolf organizations in Colorado. The literature suggests that the best approach to create semi-coexistence is to subsidize or fund prevention of livestock depredations by wolves (by using fladgery, lights, guard dogs,, etc). Or, alternatively, subsidizing ranching operations based on wolf recover seems to work well too.
While i think this is the best solution we can hope for in the current political climate (and it's still a struggle since wildlife agencies tend towards compensating lost livestock), I couldn't agree more that wolves should get preference on public lands!
