uhhh iirc they thought plauge was spreading through smell or they thought flower smell would prevent the plague from infecting then, it did not
, hence why they would stuff a mask full of flowers

Youre correct in most cases. They did put herbs and spices in their mask beak, because they believed the smell wough prevent them from getting sick. Not so much regular flowers, only flowers like rosemary, rose and such for flowers. It was mostly strong smelling herbs. They also believed that wearing that type of "vulture mask" would protect them due to the way it looked scary and creepy, since back during the Plague, they thought evil spirits and such were at works.
