I don't think there is one, it's more that the rules do not specifically state that bidders cannot back out. It states the host cannot after accepting one

Really interesting , so the top bidder can decide to change their mind and leave the auction owner with potentially no top bid but the auction owner much honor an accepted bid , seems slightly unfair imo but rules are rules glad to have clarity

indeed, top bid and auctioneer needs to lock in, informally by contract, when the:

1. auctioneers agrees
2. the bidder enters their offer

at least shows a little more commitment to the actual trade

If it were any other circumstances I wouldn’t have withdrawn but since there was already another close top bid and the auction was still ongoing I thought there wouldn’t me too much harm in doing so

I think a lot of us learned what that rule really meant

would love to have it amended, so its fair for both parties

Hey @river girder I just talked to the team and they confirmed that the rule is applied to both hosts and bidders, meaning you cannot back out after your bid is accepted as the top bid. The only way is to be outbid by someone else. I understand there has been a confusion since it mentions the "host" but putting the burden of the trade only on the hosts side would not make sense, and the rule implies that "Backing out of an accepted top bid is subject to moderation."

I suppose this is a learning experience for all of us, so please just keep that in mind! I will still keep @brittle meteor's bid as the top bid since he has fully committed to it, but please be mindful when placing bids

In other words, no changes to the current top bid.

Hi Koumus, do you think you can talk to the moderation team about making adjustments to the wording of this rule to make it less ambiguous?
I've experienced multiple cases where bidders just didn't really understand the rule or interpreted the rule to their own advantage.
